all this station ID, time and weather updates are a pin in the ass. If your listening to the radio in the car, most cars have digital clocks so you know the time. Your computer has a clock so why do i need Mac to tell me the dam time. I know what station I'm listening to because I have a digital radio, most people do. I think it's stupid to keep telling me what the station is, the time is and what the weather is. I can see how giving the phone number or email more is beneficial but whatever it's not my job i just listen to the radio all day.

I believe it's due to FCC regulations.

I think it's also to "make themselves legal" with the FCC. The time & temperature aren't just relegated to radio. Put on any local newscast, and you'll see the time, temp and station logo mainly on the lower right side of the screen. FOX 32 has been rotating its news logo on the lower left side of the screen, similar to FOX News Channel continuously. I think the time, temp & station logo are here to stay, whether you have HD or not.

The FCC has specific requirements for stations to fulfill their station ID requirements.

All radio stations must list their call letters and the city they are licensed at.

Do these requirements also specify how often they should broadcast the station ID?

I think the same applies to TV as well. Thats why during a Fox football game, WFLD displays their stupid FOX Chicago WFLD graphic right in the middle of 50th yardline or wherever they are about to snap from. The legal ID probably is not necessary in this day and age.

And the FCC has other stupid regulations. Stations, I think are supposed to log their programming and such.

At the Lewis station, whenever a DJ is on, he is supposed to track which songs play and such... as well as check modulation levels every 2 hours.

Stations are there to perform public service. As such they have to document the service provided.

Grin. Stations are here to sell advertising time, and put on sufficient programming to attract eyes and ears to said advertising.

Other countries have nationalized radio and TV stations.

Whatever. While the airwaves may be in the public domain, bandwidth on copper or fibre cables aren't... Something to look forward to :-)

Why is it that something in the public domain (broadcast bandwidth) can be licensed for private profit? Doesn't quite sound fair to Johnny Q. Taxpayer.

If its raining/storming, they do the test at a different time. If its Tuesday at 10am, and its storming- duck, cover, and kiss your ass goodbye.

Storms need their practice, too.
