Q didn't build the roster, but he and his staff are responsible for having some of the worst special teams in the league for 3+ seasons so they deserved to go. Q had a system built around mobile blue liners, something he hasn't had for years, but he was stubborn and never adjusted.

With that said, Hockey Ops should've been cleared out as well today.

You could argue, he only had like 1 or 1.5 of those blue liners in his last cup win.

Bowman should of been fired, but I think we knew after this draft, that wasn't going to happen.

I kind of wonder if this will also be the impetus for pushing some of the older players out the door; maybe the FO figured if they got rid of Q, maybe the Seabrooks of the world would be more willing to waive their no-movement clauses...?

M&H mocking Bernstein for being clueless when told that fans were more in favor of launching Stan than Q.

As much as I enjoy hearing hokey talk, with Danny Boy and McKid, this is gonna be like listening to golf talk.

He doesn't like hockey. He is going to pretend people in the front office are telling him things.

He should probably be fired just for bringing Saad back.

Combine that with the Hammer trade. That one really hurt.

When you have guys like Kane and Toews, it's obviously a tough decision to move future Hall of Famers/Faces of the Franchise. But to avoid the spot they're in now, the smart thing probably would have been to trade one of those guys (probably Toews) some time after the second Cup. You may not have won the third one, but you'd undoubtedly be in much better shape right now. I can understand why they didn't go that route though.

Also, committing so much money to a goalie is a very un-Bowmanlike thing to do. This is no knock on Crawford. He's an elite goalie. But the (Scottie) Bowman philosophy has always been that an elite goalie isn't the place you want to bury your money in a salary cap situation.

As a guy who loves hockey (only behind baseball), I found it very frustrating to watch games the past few years. I probably saw at least 50% of actual play of regular season games.

-The power play was dreadful. The Hawks only had one guy who consistently won at the dot (Toews). Worse, they never entered the zone with any speed. It was clear they had poor coaching and scheme. In my opinion, the power play went down the day Campbell was shipped off.
-Line juggling was maddening. I would read articles about how a line was working well, and then two games later guys were all switched up. I recall when Brouwer was shipped off after a bad year, he noted that lack of line consistency was the biggest cause of his production decline.
-Young players were penalized heavily for any mistakes particularly on defense. They benched Schmaltz recently. It happened throughout Q's tenure. Very few promising players developed under Q in the past couple of years. Maybe they were all bad.
-Veterans were rarely penalized. Toews had long stretches of nothing. A number one center that can't score. Seabrook hasn't checked a player in five years. He got benched for what, one game? Hammer, Hossa and Kane seemed to be the only players that brought it every night.
-The Hawks tended to give up goals right at the end of periods. I can't believe how many times teams were scoring with less than 30 seconds left in a period. I even noticed many goals scored right at the outset of a period. I would love to see some hard stats on that, but it was obvious to me.

I am very appreciative of Q and the Cups. But at some point, it wasn't working. HoF players masked a lot of the mistakes I saw from Q and his staff.

Ogie and Denis hit it.

The state of the team the last 3 seasons are on the front office. I saw enough frustrating aspects of Q's coaching, but the cupboard has been dry and that's not on Q.

This really surprises me with the timing.

Bowman has made mistakes. The Saad trade and Bickell signings are the biggest. But we don't know how much of that was from the constant battles between Q and Bowman.

I will give Bowman credit for paying Crawford. I thought his salary was too much, but Crawford has been solid and consistent up until his head problems.

I disagree, both were playing pretty well. But the biggest point was from a PR stance. After what the old man did to the team, you needed a face of the franchise. No one could of expected Toews to suck as much as he has.

I should also admit that I never played organized hockey. So unlike the other sports where I have an active knowledge of the game, I am solely a fan of hockey. I miss a ton of the nuance even as a long time lover of the game. My family used to go to old Chicago Stadium. But I do not know the game as well as someone who played. I feel bad about that. So take my thoughts as more of a casual fan even though I love the sport.

Inexcusable way to treat one of the best to coach the game, and Quenneville wasn't the one who gave Brandon Manning two years, but it was bound to happen.

So basically Barry Smith will be the real head coach (longtime Bowman spy) and Jeremy Colliton the pretend head coach?

The 1st Saad trade, I think Bowmans hands were tied. The 2nd one, we were told and saw we needed to be more physical. The Hawks kinda needed that PF after that cup. No one could of seen MS hitting Bickell, but that Bickell trade to Carolina was a botch by the medical staff and Bowman for giving up TT.
