Dirk Graham? Are you fucking kidding me? Alpo? What the fuck?!? Given how stupid your list is, I'm assuming the Sutter you mean is Brian. And what, no Trent Yawney?

Jesus fucking christ.

Jay Zawaski pointing out the same thing I pointed out, that Barry Smith is going to be the eminence grise while we pretend Colliton is in charge and kneecap him.

How can any list not include Dick Irvin? Yes his best years were in Montreal, but he's an absolute legend of a coach.

Kempny.

I don't blame Q for Daley, he was never going to be a fit here, and I'm not sure he was even that much of a contributor to the Penguins, who were all about their forwards. The handling of Kempny here was a major fuckup, however.

He should probably be fired just for bringing Saad back.

Combine that with the Hammer trade. That one really hurt.

When you have guys like Kane and Toews, it's obviously a tough decision to move future Hall of Famers/Faces of the Franchise. But to avoid the spot they're in now, the smart thing probably would have been to trade one of those guys (probably Toews) some time after the second Cup. You may not have won the third one, but you'd undoubtedly be in much better shape right now. I can understand why they didn't go that route though.

Also, committing so much money to a goalie is a very un-Bowmanlike thing to do. This is no knock on Crawford. He's an elite goalie. But the (Scottie) Bowman philosophy has always been that an elite goalie isn't the place you want to bury your money in a salary cap situation.

Wait ... trade winning a Stanley Cup to maybe win one later?

 I get that it's not that easy, but after winning two in three years it's not like this is the Cubs after 108 seasons we're talking about. They're going to be down for a long time now.

But if they'd traded Kane or Toews right after the greatest season in franchise history it would have been their biggest PR disaster since Bobby Hull left. And it's Rocky and McDonough we're talking about, PR is king.

Alpo. Lol. Anyone else remember his weekly coach's show on the Score with Tommy Williams? Neither could understand the other.

Graham was also dreadful, for precisely the opposite reasons of Alpo. Brad Brown as a top 4 defenseman..

Let's take a moment to appreciate how this sentence makes no sense to a large portion of the Blackhawks fanbase.

Incidentally, I seem to remember this happening to the Florida Panthers a while ago. Maybe even while Dineen was the coach?

I understand why you do that. You're already down a player on the bench (a DMan no less) and you'd hate to lose a second player for 5 minutes. But geez...control the puck or get a whistle asap near the end of that major and get someone in there...

Yeah, it's a good strategy if you get the whistle you need. If you don't, you've created a seven-minute penalty for yourself.

Yeah...what did he last, like half a season? Jesus...from Hartsburg's last season (especially March onward) through the Toews/Kane rookie seasons, this team was basically unwatchable...the fucking Mike Smith era...ugh. Too many fucking Europeans...they could've probably used more of those Good 'ol Ontario Boys.

You just plop in a forward who would never be on your PK or in a 4 on 4 situation into the box to sit the 5 minutes.

My favorite Alpo Suhonen factoids:

Quote:
Suhonen also produced a Finnish version of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and ran for a spot in the European Parliament. At the time he was also the CEO of music festival Pori Jazz, and he has also written several books in Finnish.

Kane serves lots of bench minors on the off chance they can spring a breakaway out of the box (and he's not killing penalties anyway). Could have put him in there late in the penalty.

The reason they no longer use Kane in that situation is that if the other team commits a penalty, you want Kane for the 4 on 4.

Did the Blackhawks consider any minorities or women for the coaching job before hiring another white male?

Carcillo is endearingly stupid in the way that your townie dipshit sorta-friend who's not really your friend but is always hanging out in your friend's basement is endearingly stupid. Definitely a "say what you want about me but if you come after MY FRIENDS?!?" dolt.
