Quote:
One of the most tense moments on Thursday night came just after the NFL announced the Saints had traded a first- and a fifth-round pick in 2018 and a 2019 first-round pick to the Packers just to move up 13 spots in the first round (from 27 to 14). In the minutes that followed, it was hard not to imagine a future in New Orleans that included Sean Payton breaking the brains of opposing defenses for the next decade with Lamar Jackson throwing the ball to Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas.

Instead, the Saints gave up all that draft capital to grab a pass-rushing project in UTSA defensive end Marcus Davenport. Considering the Saints' incredible draft haul a year ago (which included Kamara, plus Defensive Rookie of the Year Marshon Lattimore, tackle Ryan Ramczyk and safety Marcus Williams), perhaps New Orleans should get the benefit of the doubt. But the team's track record under GM Mickey Loomis has a lot more misses than hits when it comes to the search for pass-rush help. This smells like a "one more piece away" type of move from a team that's trying to win it all while the franchise quarterback (Drew Brees) is still able. Those moves rarely work out.

i couldn't agree more with this. while i have no idea whether jackson will turn into a good NFL QB, he would have done well under the tutelage of brees and been able to study and learn under a HOF QB. sure, that's not always a recipe for success, it's certainly more believable to happen than the Saints' drafting a franchise DE. they already have cam jordan, who sometimes has the presence of 2 players at once anyway. i have more faith in taking a chance on an iffy QB than i do taking an iffy DE.

i also doubt they had to move up to 14 to get him.

the payton brass balls in effect. i do love watching him get embarrassed. he wants so badly to believe he's parcells or belichick.

The score won’t reflect the absolute thumping the Bucs gave the Saints. This is typical Payton stat line. Getting trash time touchdowns to pad the stats and make it look like the Saints has a battle.

Same defense, but they decided to play like 2012, 2014-2016 again.

A boat load of time and three high draft pick receivers will do that

i'm starting to get too excited about this team now. it's worrying me.

that ravens game was the type of game they come in flat and get stomped until brees throws some garbage time TD's to make it look closer than it was.

instead, they flipped the script and actually made this look like a playoff game. they came back against a very formidable ravens team with a gritty defense. that opening drive was amazing, for both teams. and set the tone for the whole game. saints kept going for it, and harbaugh's defense kept saying "fuck you". in the end, nothing to show for it. but it meant that payton didn't come there to wet the bed again.

the "now brees has beaten all 32 teams in the NFL" thing wasn't what impressed me. it was just the fact that the team had no quit in them and i haven't seen them have that attitude for a while.

they're starting to look like they want it this year.

Saints are signing Dez Bryant. I don't really understand this move. I guess they aren't happy with Meredith.

They really only have one veteran and a rookie receiver. Since Ted Ginn went down it's really only been those two, Old Man Watson and Kamara catching passes.

But it is as if they learned nothing about divas after AP last season.

i'm hoping dez falls in line and gets his shots enough to where he won't cause a stir. he is on a team that's going somewhere so he really can't complain about that. i think he'd be raising a stink had he signed with the ravens. and i don't think the ravens would be any better with him.

he was definitely signed for depth since ginn went on IR. but i'd much rather have ginn than take on dez.

It can't hurt.

If he is a malcontent then just cut him.

i think that's the idea too. he didn't want a long-term contract anyway, so it's like "bye felicia" if he starts acting up.

Now this move makes more sense to me.

Dez Bryant was helped off the field at #Saints practice today after suffering what the team fears may be a torn Achilles, sources tell me and @RapSheet. He’s getting an MRI now.

Confirmed today by MRI.

Got a feeling this will be one of those “What happened to your Saints” games tomorrow.

Michael Thomas is a voodoo master. You don’t wanna be a WR on the Saints this year.

Saints are unstoppable if they get home field throughout.
