Just heard a Curious City segment about the proliferation of "steak and lemonade" joints throughout the south/west sides and suburbs. More or less an Arab answer to Greek gyros places, I guess, but with frozen lemonades, so that's cool, I think. Anyone been to one? Worth venturing south of 63rd for? I have to admit I'm a bit taken in by this variegated slurpee.

I was puzzled when they started popping up all with the same horrible formula that sounds good in theory, but is disgusting in execution. Almost entirely without exception. My nieces had me get them some in the late 90s and waz such cheap, worthless crap I threw my "food" away. I don't think that I've heard of an adult with any other options going there since.

Kind of like the other thing some non South siders have been fascinated with recently, the Gym Shoe. An amalgam of cheap meat, cheese and sauce that most lose their taste for after high school.

You guys are crazy.

Although it is not quite as good as a genuine east coast Philly Cheesesteak, it is basically the same thing and is absolutely delicious.

I get the steak and chicken combo one with chopped and fried mushrooms and green peppers. Put the loosened barbecue sauce-like sauce on top of the hoagie and it tastes amazing!

There's a Steak and Lemonade by my office in Cal City on Sibley. The idea of fast food steak is weird enough, but combining it with lemonade makes it even less desirable.

Crispy Philly is wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried.

Ever get gyros from Nicky’s? Some of the best around imo.

Probably not, but if you are down here, let us know.

I don't even think El Gallo is on 63rd no more.

You jackass!

Now I'm curious enough to look in the window I haven't stepped foot into in 20 years.

Is the lemonade because they don't drink booze, or because their target market are patrons with a flask of vodka in the glove compartment?

Nobody should type one letter in this thread until they have had a cheesesteak.
