Who makes the best steak tacos? Some of my favorites:

Paco’s on Archer & 43rd
Nuevo León on 26th & Lawndale
El Chavas Tacos on Western & Grand
Wholly Frijoles by Touhy & Pulaski

The best one that is reasonably close to where I live:

El Taconazo on Harlem & Diversey (mostly because they make my favorite salsa verse)

I’ve tried El Milagro (Blue Island & 19th), but the steak was a bit too chunky for my liking. Similar story for Carbon (by 26th & Wentworth).

Paco's on 43rd was quite good. I sampled other tacos I wouldn't normally eat and really enjoyed it.

I go to Chukis on Lawrence now. Bit of quality control issues the last couple visits. Pastor tacos are the way to go.

Never had the steak, but this place is terrific:

My favorite used to be La Playita in Hometown but they changed to a shittier quality steak a couple of years ago so I no longer go there.

The problem with most places is they incinerate the steak. There used to be this disgusting little taqueria a door or two down from Alcala's on Chicago Avenue that had great tacos. Think they renovated the place to clean it up but I haven't been there in ages.

If going to Milwaukee, there's a great taco truck just off the Becher exit on 94 (Becher between 6th & 7th). Think it is El Charrito. They make the mini tacos - and the food is amazing.

El Veloz. I don't usually get tacos. Carne en su jugo.

I love that place as well. The burritos are best in the city. The problem is that Sacramento is the dividing line between a couple of gangs. . First food place I ever went that had an armed and armored security guard.

Cermak & 18th in North Riverside.

I went to this place mostly to try their “Pambazo Sandwich” (Chorizo & Potatoes). It was pretty damn good, but I also got a couple steak tacos and they were outstanding.

If a place does serve Al Pastor tacos, then it doesn't make good tacos.

Mini Palapita on Elston north of Lawrence. Great steak tacos. And by far the best chips. The same as the Palapita that used to be on Milwaukee and Hutchinson.
