I just watched that vid of the female soilder who was greeted by her dog after a deployment.

If you have never had a dog as part of your life, you are missing out.

Dogs are a ton of work, a hassle, wreck shit, piss/shit on stuff, and cost a fuck ton of money. That said, can’t imagine life without mine.

My wife brought 3 dogs to our relationship. 2 of them were quite a bit old. Now that they've passed and we are down to 1 dog....I am enjoying dog ownership very very much. She's a weim....which makes her a real pain sometimes, but she's incredibly loving and loyal.

We are on our fourth dog in 20 yrs. The first were true mutts, could only speculate by looks. The third was half mastiff, half Rottweiler. All were pretty laid back dogs. We lost Harvey in January. And had to wait to get another until the summer. It was very strange not having one for a few months. Well, we decided to go purebred this time and got a German Shepherd. Walter is 8 months and is he a handful. The neediest dog I’ve ever seen and smart as hell. I had forgotten how much of a pain puppies are. I keep telling myself he’ll be a good dog eventually.

German, Austrailian, or anything with the name Shepherd in the name are going to be a handful. Those dogs need to run. They're not meant to be lazy house dogs.

We’re finding that out. We ordered two different kinds of calming treats from amazon. They both had German shepherds on the lable. I knew we were fucked.

We have a mastiff mix and a lab mix and the mastiff is happy to just lay down all day, but the lab keeps trying to get her to play. Usually it turns into "can you take this bone from me?" But they are both really sweet. The fact that they follow me around all the time gets annoying but then when they are not here, I miss having my shadows around.

We’ve had a ton of dogs on the farm between pets, working dogs and the occasional foster. One of my favorite thungs when I was younger was going for a walk with the 9 dogs. Would never do that many again but at the time it was fun. The old dogs always spoil you and you forget how much of a pain they were when they are young. My German shorthair is finally becoming a reasonable dog at 7. The 16 month Anatolian mix is a freaking 120 pound disaster.

As a kid we never had dogs so didn't learn about them until later in life. While our kids were growing up we has a Boston and it was great. But after he died we never replaced him which I was and still am good with.

Our goal was to simplify, largely by reducing the number of mammals living in our house. Now that both kids are moved out we have largely succeeded :D :D

Never been a dog person at all. I know I shouldn't just think of the negative, but when I'm out and I see someone walking there dog and picking up their shit, I get disgusted.

I do like black labs though.

Not to turn this negative but police are trained to react to dogs is particularly cruel. Always the worst stories to hear outside of the obvious ones.

To be fair, Darkside, despite some of our differences, represents the cat loving manly man pretty well.

Hey man. Cats are great, and much more self sufficient than dogs. Dogs are much more willing to learn and are more loyal in most cases.

Soy boy or not, I love all animals more than humans.

One of the worst things encountered with pet owners is dog people who feel the need to shit on cats, and vice versa.

I love cats, they are cool.

But dogs man, dogs. Just something awesome about them. Both of my dogs are asleep on sofas right now. If I called to them they would wake up and walk over just because I asked them to.

Same here.

Our Dane will walk up to me and stare and walk around the room until I move from the couch. Then she hops up onto my spot.

First day we got her she came in, walked around, took a dump in the dining room and hopped up on a couch and went to sleep.

My life's motto is "Never trust anyone who doesn't like dogs or The Three Stooges"

Unless you've been attacked by a dog (which, 99.9999% of the time is NOT the dog's fault), you're probably miserable and evil person if you don't like dogs. Not owning a dog is one thing. Not liking them is genuinely tragic.

Great thread. Dogs are tops.

All of gods creatures deserve our love though. What globalists have done to the living things we share this planet with is terrible. Keep them in your hearts forever mates.

On my third Boxer now. First two were rescues and taught me a lot about the breed. Current one I got as a puppy and while it was a tough first
few years, he finally mellowed out just before turning five. The last year with him has been pretty great other than the fact that he is not dog
friendly. Great family dog. Definitely one of us.

I just got an Egyptian Mau cat, which is cool as far as cats go, but still will get a dog in the next 2 years or so. Dogs are superior.

Never grew up with a dog as opposed to my wife. So when we got our dog as rescue puppy I was shocked at the hassle/work/money. The first six months were horrible but now that she's a year I see why dogs are the best. Feel bad that she loves the outdoors but we live in an apartment. Though we send her to daycare daily to let her expend her energy (didn't realize that cost either....)
