There's always a house in everyone's neighborhood that keeps feeding feral cats.

We have one old lady that does this.

I guess they keep the rats out of the neighborhood.

Not when they're being fed.

I actually have two alley cats I regularly feed. One in particular after she killed a mouse and paraded it around for a minute as I was sitting on my deck with a book and a cocktail.

Honestly dude feeding ferals is a really bad idea.

Started in the spring. They now answer when I call and are happy to sit at my feet whenever I'm sitting outside.

Our cat is 15 or so. Just counting down the days until I can sky point her.

He’s an indoor/outdoor cat. He’ll look at me and I’ll ask him if he wants to go out. He’ll run to the door. I’ve already prepared myself for the time I let him out and he doesn’t come back. It’ll be a sad day.

yeah, our cats were indoor/outdoor. but they always knew to stay around the yard and not really stray. his routine was always eat, go to the front door, be let out, and then come back in when it was time for dinner. it always cracked me up whenever there was rain or snow or inclement weather, and i'd open the door and he'd look outside, then look up at me like i caused it. then he'd sit there for a few moments, and turn around like he's saying "i changed my mind. it's not the weather, i just don't feel like going out."

i never got to say good-bye to him, as i had been moved out and living out here. he was sick and i didn't get a chance to get home before he passed. that really hurt. but my parents told me it was better that i didn't see him like that, because he apparently looked really terrible. so there's some comfort in that the last time i saw him he was still healthy looking. no matter how much you prepare yourself though it still hurts. especially when you've had them that long. but it's always great when you can enjoy the time you do get.
