if the show wanted to have a heavy punch of reality, Pam and Jim would've gotten a divorce in the last season when he was always in philly and she was losing her mind at home. Fairy tale love and all that shit from the early seasons turning out to not actually be the best for either of them...happens all the time. but people would've lost their shit and burned NBC to the ground

I didn't watch a ton of the show, but whoever was the female character, with the blond hair who was Michael's girlfriend, that ended any further show watching for me. That was terrible.

Parks and Rec had the same problem as a comedy where everyone would tell me I would love, I watched a couple episodes and thought it was lame, and then they told me to fast forward and start season 2 and it would be great then.

you should start with season one and two of the British version and then when that is done start right in on season 2 of the US version since that's where that show actually begins.

I finally did start watching it. Towards the end of season 3 now before stopping for the night. For my money, “Phyllis, you’re a married woman.” is probably the funniest line of the series I’ve heard so far.

Have you read anything about this new "hopepunk" movement? It's been all over The Zeitgeist for the last week or so. Basically, it's the idea that media needs to be relentlessly earnest and optimistic if we're to make it through the Trump presidency. I think that's kind of a dimwitted way to approach the world, there's still plenty of room for cynicism in media consumption, and in fact I think I would want more of that now than I did under Obama.

Anyway, Parks and Recreation is given as an example of hopepunk for what should be obvious reasons. But the show's over, it's not being produced with this new ethos in mind, we're just slapping a new label on the tapes. I prefer my old labels, like "unfunny," "stupid cloying bullshit," and "The Care Bears for twentysomethings who freelance for ad agencies."

I have not stumbled across hopepunk yet but from my experience with how these things work I’ll see it a dozen times between now and the middle of next week. It seems like a quintessential Zeitgeist thing.
