Russo went off today on Baines. I guess I didnt know the committe was all guys who knew or played with or managed Baines.

Owner , Manager, GM , Teammate

Conflict of interest he says.

Good for Baines then.

He was really choked up about his late father not being able to share this moment with him.

Just heard that on M&H. Obviously, he is a nice guy and will accept this. It has to be a bit weird though to be in his position with so many feeling he was not really up to this level.

As for the HOF going forward I think I expected these things to begin. Baines aside these new separate veterans type committees are intended to get more guys in. I think 10 years from now there will be many more discussions like this like it or not.

Miguel Cabrera's watch cost more than Harold Baines's car. Justin Verlander made $28 million last year. How much did Baines make? You see, pal, that's who Hall of Famers are, and Baines is nothing. Nice guy? I don't give a shit. Good father? Fuck him!

At least the White Sox guy that doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame is capable of buttoning a shirt!

For official photo ops can the Hall afford unwrinkled jerseys and help the Cubs player with his buttons?

Eh, if I was at a press conference where my earning potential over the remainder of my life went up by a million bucks or so, I wouldn't give any shits about my buttons either.

Looks like Jorr was on to something with the Ray Durham suggestion.

Those are all similar guys and all of them just short. The problem is that Dawson got in. He belongs with that group too.

Yeah. Even bums like Santo, Dawson, and Smith.

Dawson was the best player in baseball at one time. Smith was the best closer.

Cant say that for Baines or Santo

But Parker should've gotten in first.

And as for Evans, he was the third best OF on his own team most years.

So, that's a yes on the 2 black guys and a hell no on the cracker?

You could argue Baines was the best DH in baseball and Santo was the best third baseman in baseball at certain points.

Those are not equal.

The equality for Santo would have been being the best infielder in all of baseball and the DH thing is half a player.

 I don't think he was the best player in baseball then. Hell, there were two guys with the same last name who were better.

He finished 2nd in position player war in 3 different seasons. He was at least in the conversation in the early 80s and again in 87

Literally half a broadcaster. He had all of his limbs when he played.

nothing more pointless than arguing the merits of someone after they have been voted in

what do they call a guy who graduated last in his class at the academy the day after graduation?

Sir.

Actually I don't think Harold is a HOF guy. But it doesn't matter now. :D
