On paper I guess this looks like a standard Andy Reid loss but I have no idea what you would have wanted them to do differently on that last offensive possession, nor do I see how calling passes on two of the three downs qualifies as too conservative. They were screwed by the block in the back and the false start.

Interesting game overall marred by the amount of penalties and an especially atrocious call by Buck and Aikman. I think the defensive liabilities on display by the Chiefs show why it's hard to make them the favorites in the AFC even if they get home field, but on the other hand I think all of the other AFC teams are equally flawed in other areas as well. I still might like Pittsburgh more than the rest simply because of the amount of talent they have on paper, but it's kind of hard to put much stock into that because of how damn inconsistent they've been.

Also there's been a lot of talk about Reid and Nagy for Coach of the Year but Lynn might deserve it over both of them. The funny thing is I've hardly ever heard him mentioned when people discuss the success of the Chargers this year; it's always Rivers Rivers Rivers.

Put the ball in Mahomes hands on every play. That first down run by a 3rd string running back really set them back.

I think most people expected the Chargers to be good. Rivers gets a lot of credit because he was already an established future HoF QB. Having that guy makes your job easier.

Unreal loss last night. Can't blow a 14 point lead with less than 5 minutes to go. Reid is a offensive genius, but a complete dumb fuck every where else. This team loses their 1st playoff game, no doubt. Nagy has some of these bad traits as well.

Nagy has won all of his important matchups and Reid is 0-3.

LA must be super pumped to have both of their teams being among the best in the league. Football must be HUGE there.

You have to admit that game could have sent the Bears into a death spiral. It was a horrible loss. But Nagy learned from it, and the team has turned it on for the most part. On balance, it was probably a good early learning experience.

So your basis for Reid getting too conservative is a single solitary playcall? He put the ball in Mahomes' hands on second and third down and the Chargers defense simply made plays. The real self-sabotage by the Chiefs last night was the penalties and blown coverages on defense, not the offensive game plan IMO.

I don't think most people expected the Chargers to be this good. Especially with Bosa out for most of the season and down to their fourth string running back last night. I'm also completely against Rivers as a surefire Hall of Famer, but regardless of where one stands on him, they certainly haven't had this kind of success in the regular season since Tomlinson retired. Lynn deserves loads of credit.

That was arguably the most important drive. Being 2nd and 3rd and long they far back tells everyone that you are passing.

That's fine if you want to give him credit. I don't think he's in the conversation with Reid or Nagy though. That could change.

Wouldn't the actual conservative thing to do on 2nd and 3rd down be to run regardless to get them to use their timeouts?

I absolutely think Lynn belongs in the same conversation and I'd probably put Carroll in the same class too. Hell you should probably have Carroll as your top choice far and away given how you rate his quarterback

No. That would just have been dumb. Reid isn't dumb. He just panics like McNabb under pressure.

They're next tier. I've never said that Wilson sucks. I've said that he is overrated based on people putting him in the top 4. That hasn't changed.

I love Saturday December NFL football.

I really wanted the Bears to get Benardrick McKinney coming out of college. Great size and athleticism. Good player.

The got Kevin White and Eddie Goldman. I'm OK with Goldman.

White might be the worst top 10 pick of the past decade. It might not even be debatable.

Except for the time he let them win the last game of the year, make the playoffs, beat the Bears in the championship game, and win the Super Bowl.
