On paper I guess this looks like a standard Andy Reid loss but I have no idea what you would have wanted them to do differently on that last offensive possession, nor do I see how calling passes on two of the three downs qualifies as too conservative. They were screwed by the block in the back and the false start.

Interesting game overall marred by the amount of penalties and an especially atrocious call by Buck and Aikman. I think the defensive liabilities on display by the Chiefs show why it's hard to make them the favorites in the AFC even if they get home field, but on the other hand I think all of the other AFC teams are equally flawed in other areas as well. I still might like Pittsburgh more than the rest simply because of the amount of talent they have on paper, but it's kind of hard to put much stock into that because of how damn inconsistent they've been.

Also there's been a lot of talk about Reid and Nagy for Coach of the Year but Lynn might deserve it over both of them. The funny thing is I've hardly ever heard him mentioned when people discuss the success of the Chargers this year; it's always Rivers Rivers Rivers.

So your basis for Reid getting too conservative is a single solitary playcall? He put the ball in Mahomes' hands on second and third down and the Chargers defense simply made plays. The real self-sabotage by the Chiefs last night was the penalties and blown coverages on defense, not the offensive game plan IMO.

I don't think most people expected the Chargers to be this good. Especially with Bosa out for most of the season and down to their fourth string running back last night. I'm also completely against Rivers as a surefire Hall of Famer, but regardless of where one stands on him, they certainly haven't had this kind of success in the regular season since Tomlinson retired. Lynn deserves loads of credit.
