How good would he be now that he finally has weapons and everyone else isn't the problem?

I think it would be similar stats as Mitch this year, with more passing yards and 1/3rd of the rushing yards. Probably the same record, maybe one more win.

What might have been if Cutler came to a better situation than the Bears? Could his throwing off his back foot, throwing into muliple defenders coverage been corrected? The poor guy took a beating playing with the Bear's porous O lines.

Cutler wasn't coachable. He fought with everyone. Mitch is coachable and playing as well in Year 2 as Cutler played in year 10.

Cutler had no pocket presence, Mitch does.

Exactly. Mitch uses his legs as well as anyone. The coachable comment is also true.

Wait until (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has the experience Cutler had when he was smoking cigarettes in Chicago.
His numbers being similar to cutler's at this point in his career is an indictment on Cutler not trubiski.

Wanny was on m&h this week and said Mitch is really improving in all parts of the game. He especially was impressed how Mitch is looking for receivers after the pocket breaks down, and he starts to scramble. Wanny mentioned he had a veteran starting qb who couldn't/wouldn't do it. Just run with 5 guys open.

Cutler’s baseline was how much he respected the coach. He thought he was smarter than most of them. Still doesn’t explain his refusal to get his mechanics better.

It would be a good listen to hear someone like Wanny, or Greg Gabriel with inside information give an honest assessment of Cutler's career. Thoughts and reasons on his untapped potential, mechanics, coachability, personality, relationship with team mates, weak teams and coaches.

Cutler wasn't a winner. He found ways to lose games. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, even with his inexperience and room to grow, will usually find ways to win games (or at least not lose them). He's the anti-Cutler.

Amazing how much more a team can accomplish when they like the leader.

Jay was a physically gifted QB talent that couldn’t put the rest together.

He’d be no different in this offense. He may have some big games under a guy like Nagy but Jay lacked intangibles that Mitch actually has. Even in games where Mitch isn’t performing well passing he doesn’t quit or let things snowball and still finds other ways to make things happen (using his feet for example) that Jay just didn’t really ever do. When things started to go bad in a game for Jay.. it escalated and usually went really bad. Mitch doesn’t have that same issue imo.

Also lol @ throwing Jays stats under Gase up against what Mitch has done this year. Mitch is a 2nd year QB in the 1st year under a new scheme with mostly new targets. Jay was a fucking coach killing veteran by time he played for Gase.

There's basically four components to a quarterback's game: accuracy, arm strength, decision making, and mobility. Mitch has better mobility and has an impressive ability to make good decisions for a guy with his level of experience. However, Cutler had a stronger arm and was much more accurate. I think the comparison is a lot closer than you guys are arguing.

Intangibles (such as leadership/willing to lead) matter for a QB. And Jay didn’t have that, Mitch seems to have that quality about him.

I think you’re dead wrong. Mitch may not go one to be extremely successful in the NFL -who knows- but he will not fail for the same reasons Cutler did, they aren’t anything alike imo.

Cutler compares far more accurately with a guy like Jeff George. Mitch isn’t anything like either of those guys in terms of playing style nor attitude.

Has Cutler ever said "Yes, sir" in his life? He would often fall in love with 1 receiver too.

To be an elite qb like Brady/Rodgers/PeytonManning is truely rare. Cutler was one of the best Bear QBs ever. But, that's not saying much with their dismal QB history. Cutler to me was middle of the pack compared to his peers. Ok good, not great. Mitch with the current era inflated qb ratings is having a pretty decent 2018. His mobility is amazing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he'll be an elite QB one day. He's showing glimpes, but overall he's just a notch above Cutler. He's got a long way to go to be an elite QB. The odds are against him being one. I hope he is one day.

That is a large oversimplification.

Cutler played for the Bears. He had good games and bad games. The Bears are likely better now than at any point during Cutler's tenure. Lets worry about today and tomorrow and forget about the past except for 2005.

How many more wins do you think Cutler would have had with Khalil Mack on the defensive side of the ball?

You're right Jay Cutler does compare to Jeff George, but I do not think (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky compares to anyone that great either. Also, whenever I read the work "intangibles" I translate it as "player x is better than player y, but I don't really know why." If we're saying Mitch is better due to some sort of ephemeral quality, I'm sorry, but that's not enough for me.

It is somewhat of an oversimplification, but how else area we supposed to objectively assess these things? If we're going on "intangibles" or saying "he's just a winner," I think we're being somewhat lazy.
