Hiring Fangio would go against just about every NFL coach hiring trend right now. Old, defense, media unfriendly, not a players coach.
I could see him being attractive to someone like the Bengals, but then they would have to change their team culture of welcoming miscreants. He might be work for the Browns but I would bet they are going for someone to bond with Mayfield.
Yep. Which is why I don't understand why FF has said he is at the top of his list for the Packers.
The guy is a great DC, but there is a reason he has never been a head coach.
And that reason is Front Offices routinely fuck up coaching decisions, which is one reason for the unprecedented turnover the job has. They used to say the same thing about Bruce Arians.
Fangio is a players coach. Not sure where GD is getting that from. He's a little old but age is literally completely irrelevant in this discussion. Media unfriendly is also irrelevant. Even trash teams like Tampa Bay can put together explosive offenses nowadays, a good defense seperates great teams from middle of the pack teams generally. The offense with Rodgers will be fine the next few years, they need a defense that can keep pace.
If you have a HC vacancy and your front office doesn't have Fangio near the top of their wish list, there's a good chance your front office is clueless.
