Me - I think Rose is a game changer and will continue to be at the next level. I like Beasley too but I might be naive but with a great PG, you can get enough out of Gooden on the block.

Look what Chris Paul did to Chandler. We may see Rose do the same for Tyrus Thomas.

(I am not saying Rose is Chris Paul, but he is going to be a game changing PG)

Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley?

Rose. Hometown kid, plus you cant pass on a dominant PG, even for a dominant PF, assuming they both live up to the hype.

That's my lean as well.

FavreFan,
I agree that Rose is the pick, but let's not go crazy with the hometown kid angle.

Eddy Curry was a hometown kid too.

Derrick Rose is the big point guard that elevates the quality of NBA teams. He is a good shooter, has great quickness, instinctive moves and quickness with the ball, is a very good passer with good court vision and seemingly has the intangibles that separate a good player from a great one. I don't understand how people think Beasley will dominate at the NBA level. I don't see it. Unlike college ball, he won't be bigger, faster and stronger than the guys that are guarding him. His post moves are ok, but far from superior. He got so many of his points right around the hoop and I don't see that happening in the NBA. He is going to need to hit the 10 foot J to complement his dribble drives and post moves. His unorthodox shot makes that something of a guess. Beasley might be a decent NBA player, but I don't believe he will post the numbers that Elton Brand had in his first five years. Would you take that as your #1 pick? On the other hand, Rose will be a great one for years. It's Rose for me.....and I'm not sure I'd even make Beasley a top five pick, let alone the top one.

Like I said before, I dont think Ive ever seen a KSU game, and only a handful of Memphis games. I thought Derick Rose wasnt a great shooter. And I thought Beasley is said to have excellent post moves and 20 foot range on his jump shot. Thats just what Ive heard.

Ive heard hes not a great passer. Thats one of the things that seperates KG and Duncan from their counterparts.

Neither of them were great passer when they came into the league. That's the case with most big men. Once that learn how to handle double teams they get better.

I'll be the first one to tell you that you cant judge someone based on highlights, but it seems to me Beasley isnt a very diverse passer. I wish I had watched him more, but he doesnt seem to have the all around game KG or Duncan has. He seems more of a better Zach Randolph. I remember thinking Duncan was exceptional all around when he came into the L.

Please stop watching highlights

  Fair enough. I cant wait for both of them to enter the League. I still am fairly certain Rose is gonna be a star and Im not positive about Beasley. I fully admit all of this is based on Memphis going to the championship game and therefore me watching way more Memphis than I did KSU.

Rose shot 48% from the field and 34% from trey. I didn't say he was a good three point shooter, but 48% from the field is solid enough to be classified as being a "good" shooter. I'll stand by that statement.

I agree. He needs to improve. Still, that 47% is good. Yeah, alot of that is coming off drives. Hey, that's a good thing.

Jordan couldn't shoot his first 3 years in the NBA. He was still over 50%.

I hear you Nas, but post guys like chandler get a much higher % of their shots around the bucket and on putbacks. 48% is pretty good for a point guard. Of course Rose will become a better shooter. I just think he's good enough, considering his other superb skills and intangibles, to take at #1.
