Zeph here is confusing "personal" character, with "locker" room character. You can be a boy scout in terms of "personal" character and just a real asshole in the locker room. And vice versa. You can be a real piece of shit off the field, yet have most of your teammates adore you in the locker room.

Ben is bad guy off the field, good guy in the clubhouse guy as I see it, and Brown is just the opposite, though didn't Mr. Antonio almost kill a kid this offseason?

Ben was a real bad guy. He seems to have grown up Caller Bob. I can’t believe some jag off like Zeph makes me defend Ben who is useless in my life but right in this situation nevertheless.

I mean we can all agree he probably raped at least one of those girls. And to this day, he's still probably the guy what would bump into you are a bar, spill your drink and stare you down, but whatever, who fucking cares. None of these guys are role models to me.

Yep and having to pull Ben stuff from 10 plus years ago is funny also. His wife and 3-4 kids and life lately stand as quality independent of his past bar crawl youth. Additionally past bar/women/other behavior not team related seems a weird connection to try and make anyway.

Did you likewise find the article Toxic posted largely about Brown being an ass to the media also a "weird" connection to make to team-related stuff? Or was that completely relevant to the current situation?

I'd also add as far as on the field stuff goes, I'm pretty sure it was Ben and not AB who literally just got an OC fired a year ago.

That article makes AB come off as a cloying fraud with the same sort of borderline sociopathy as a Jameis Winston.

The way he treats the mothers of his children and the media make me wonder if he is not good for the locker room.

To be fair i have no hard evidence of this other than him sitting a game.

Ben showed up to play in the most important game of the season. Antonio did not. Ben's rape allegations are irrelevant here. Antonio deserves the heat given the circumstances. And he probably deserves to be fired as well.

I don't see how constantly whining and threatening to retire cause you don't like your OC makes you a good locker room guy, but your mileage may vary. New coordinator's offense was worse than Haley's this year BTW, though I suppose that's more the fault of the other diva on the team Bell and definitely not poor Ben and his BFF OC.

Toxic's article was complaining about Brown's off the field character anyway, so Ben's own off the field incidents (far more serious than anything Brown's ever done) seemed somewhat relevant.

The Steelers were 6th in the NFL this year in PPG. I'm not seeing where the offense is the problem.

And they were 5th last year and fell from 3rd to 6th in DVOA too. Beyond that, one of the main reasons they lost crucial games down the stretch like against Denver is because Fichtner was still letting Ben chuck it around the field instead of exploiting defenses bad against the run.

Come on, dude. A "fall" from 5th to 6th? And no mention of losing the best RB in the league? You're reaching at best. They also had Connor out for three games late in the season. Ben had to throw.

I brought up DVOA too as an actual efficiency measure rather than the rather crude PPG. The Steelers averaged more yards per rush attempt this year than they did with Bell last year yet were actively looking to avoid rushing despite that success even with Connor in the lineup (which is why I brought up the Denver game for instance).

I'll let people more knowledgeable about Steelers football chime in but like others have said and like I said in the OP the offense was not the problem. In fact the offense is why the Steelers should have won the north outright. They are as explosive as KC and NO even after losing Bell. They were 7-2-1 at one point before inexcusably losing to Denver and Oakland. The record didn't match the talent. Youve got commentators suggesting the team's performance was the most disappointing out of every team in the league. No one is suggesting the offense was the problem.

I don't think I ever said it was the problem, but when you fail to make the playoffs entirely and disappoint as much as they did, downgrading you overall offensive performance certainly doesn't help. At least Ben got to lead the league in pass attempts though.

Who gives a shit about Ben? Vegan was talking about AB, and then Roethlisberger is brought up out of absolutely nowhere. Maybe we should do background checks on the whole team and make sure we mention every single infraction any of them has ever made every time we talk negatively about any player... just for the sake of fairness.

I brought up Ben since Brown's altercation was with him and since Brown's own off-the-field stuff was cited to supplement the claim that one of the parties in the altercation was a piece of shit.

Notice how I haven't had any problems with Toxic himself or anyone else declaring them both jagoffs? I've merely been responding to pittmike and Ruffcorn putting on their capes for Ben and frothing at the mouth about race as usual.

People wouldn't have cared in 1985. Only a few years ago MANY things were still acceptable.

Why does the opinion of Zeph bother some of you so much? Imagine if someone said that you have a particular opinion because you're racist; how would you react? Well, we don't have to imagine because we see the reactions several times a week in the politics section.

Whoa, I think this post should be directed at PittMike. I just challenged the notion that Steelers offense got worse this year. it really didn't

I tied 2 posts into one. My bad. That wasn't directed specifically at you. I read takes in the politics section then see the same folks do the exact same thing they complain about.

Did I mention race? I'm saying it was a dumb comment out of nowhere that seemed to be an attempt to absolve Brown of being a complete reject. I have no idea what his motivation was, but it was a whataboutism that made no sense.
