And they were 5th last year and fell from 3rd to 6th in DVOA too. Beyond that, one of the main reasons they lost crucial games down the stretch like against Denver is because Fichtner was still letting Ben chuck it around the field instead of exploiting defenses bad against the run.

I brought up DVOA too as an actual efficiency measure rather than the rather crude PPG. The Steelers averaged more yards per rush attempt this year than they did with Bell last year yet were actively looking to avoid rushing despite that success even with Connor in the lineup (which is why I brought up the Denver game for instance).

I'll let people more knowledgeable about Steelers football chime in but like others have said and like I said in the OP the offense was not the problem. In fact the offense is why the Steelers should have won the north outright. They are as explosive as KC and NO even after losing Bell. They were 7-2-1 at one point before inexcusably losing to Denver and Oakland. The record didn't match the talent. Youve got commentators suggesting the team's performance was the most disappointing out of every team in the league. No one is suggesting the offense was the problem.

I don't think I ever said it was the problem, but when you fail to make the playoffs entirely and disappoint as much as they did, downgrading you overall offensive performance certainly doesn't help. At least Ben got to lead the league in pass attempts though.
