Mitch put up Cam Newton rushing stats this season. Future HOFer!

Cam gets to one more Super Bowl and he has as good a claim as Steve Young.

Just wait til he finishes with more rushing TDs than guys like Eric Dickerson and Barry Sanders. Poor Nas will have a rough time when we bump this thread in 2025.

It still won't change anything. He's playing in a pussy era. No one would take him over 3 of the 4 players I named. Put them in this era and they would put up video game numbers. If Warren Moon was throwing for 5000 yards in 1990, how many yards would he throw for today? How many rushing yards would Cunningham have? Vick?

So numbers don't mean anything today because they're inflated, but you're putting Rivers in the same class as Brady and in the Hall with basically no notable postseason success (including multiple seasons where he had the best running back and tight end in the league).

I don't think any QB is in the class of Brady. I was just stating that I believe Rivers is definitely going to the HoF.

Still having a hard time squaring the argument for Rivers with the one against Cam. Rivers has no notable postseason success to speak of despite playing with two of the best players at their positions, no MVPs, and we've already decided numbers don't really count cause it's a pussy era (or maybe it just wasn't from the year Rivers entered the league until the year Newton did?) Has Rivers "changed the direction of the position?" Have his playoff performances inspired you that he's a quarterback who can win a game for you?

It's all subjective but I think Rivers larger body of work and some came from a not so soft era. Rivers clearly loves the game. I tend to love the hardworking and passionate players. It's one of the many reasons why I love Favre even though he made my childhood miserable. I just don't see that from Newton and he personally annoys the hell out of me.

No. The rest of his credentials put him on pace to be a no brainer one. He still needs to produce a few more seasons. Considering the pace he was on before getting hurt this year, his general durability(remember week 1 a couple years ago against the Broncos where he got like 5 concussions in one game and came back the next week fine?) and his team I don’t see that being a big problem going forward.

Edit: no brainer HOFer. Said he was on his way to being first ballot. Clearly not there yet.

I think you are giving him too much credit because of his one season. He has been league average otherwise.

No he hasn’t. Nobody in the history of the entire league has done what he’s done rushing. The best rushing QBs of all time are all going to come up very short of what he does.

When he finishes in the top 15 of all time at any position in rushing TDs and has all his passing credentials to go with it this is going to look like a ridiculous conversation. And that was my main point. He’s on his way to an easy, close to first ballot HOF career. And unlike you tried to imply earlier he’s showing no signs of slowing down. His shoulder injury isn’t serious and he was playing as well as he ever has before week 10.

Lamar Jackson had more rushing TDs this season. If he continues to start, he will rack them up. Will he be HOF caliber just because he runs for TDs as a QB?

If he’s on pace to rush for more touchdowns than Erick Dickerson did 7 years from now I’d be glad to entertain this discussion. Til then I’ll politiely point out this is the definition of grasping at straws when you have run out of arguments.

Chiefs are gonna hire Rex Ryan as DC. Great move, these guys are gonna be damn near unstoppable for the foreseeable future.

I guess I really lit a fire under his ass.
