One blitz Fangio was fantastic at designing was from the CB position. Everyone he put in there over the years seemed to get pressure. Callahan was great this year, got hurt and there was Mc Mannis getting home on plays.

He did a great job with Roquan blitzing this year but I think he saw something unique in Roquan and expanded out of his normal defensive system

I loved the discipline this defense showed. They were the 2nd least penalized team and I bet they were the least penalized defense.

Whoever comes in needs to encourage that discipline.

He would completely undermine Nagy with his name alone.

For some reason it feels like they are going to bring Greg Schiano back home.

They did not always get pressure when they didn’t blitz.

Irrelevant anyway -it’s not about how much you blitz, its about when you blitz and how you do it.

That was one of my biggest issues with Fangio. You don’t sit back in coverage at the end of a game and let a pocket passer pick you apart on a last minute drive for a game winning score. You have to find a way to put pressure on that guy both mentally and physically.

And this is the kind of stuff that Fangio excelled at. He was great at preparing his guys, recognizing their actual talent, and keeping them disciplined and on point with their assignments. It’s hard to imagine any replacement we bring in will be better than Fangio in these areas.

And that’s why losing him will suck. There’s a couple guys on our defense I fear won’t look as good without Vic’s guidance.

Agree.. I'd guess the Bears blitzed less than 95% of their counterparts. That's just dumb when you have this much talent n Mack

What about bringing Dave Toub back as DC, STC and assistant HC? Is he defensive minded enough? Is he available?

Good thought.

I'd also add that John Shoop was the most defensive-minded offensive coordinator in Bear history.

He is currently available, and hiring him as the next defensive coordinator would be pure genius.

TM’s #1 DC candidate: Nathan Peterman.

Interesting.

I wonder if the Bears think Donatell is likely to follow Fangio and is just using the Bears to get leverage for a better deal in Denver.

Pagano has a much better resume as DC than Donatell but he may not be a better fit at this particular time. I can make an argument for either.

Well that’s kind of annoying. Was hoping they would hire someone worse.
