I certainly don't think Bobby Portis is the Bulls best player. I don't even like Bobby Portis.

But recently he has demonstrated consistent offensive capabilities...and seems to be their top threat from 3. Did the Bulls make a mistake in matching Lavine's RFA and now likely not being able to match Portis'?

Bobby hasn't played well this year. He is nothing more than a backup. Matching Lavine was the right play then and its the right play now.


Let Portis walk. He had one good game but he has largely stunk the joint up this year. You don't pay that type of money to guys that are backups.

What does Lavine do wildly better than Portis?

Their scoring efficiency is about the same. Their first 4 seasons seem pretty similar on the offensive end, when you adjust for the differences in volume / minutes played.

Score. Shoots higher percentage from 3. Look at his career avg and contrast it with Portis's. No comparison. Also a better passer. Higher Basketball IQ too.

I'd take Jabari Parker in a heartbeat over Bobby Portis also.

You're fighting a losing battle here. Jabari Parker is the most irrelevant player on quite possibly the most irrelevant Bulls team in history. Only the 1999 team comes close to matching this garbage team in futility. Parker got a conditional deal to join the worst team in the league. He might be jobless in two years unless learns the concept of defense.

I side with IMU here. If Smith ever put it together he would be better than Gibson. He was more talented. But he never did as far as I remember. That's why Gibson was arguably better at his peak because he didn't hurt his team's chances like Smith did, despite his prodigious talent
