Maybe belongs in "Shout Out"? But here it goes anyway...

Chicken fried steak is outstanding.

The flattened, breaded and deep fried chicken steak smothered in white peppered breakfast gravy is a cold winter's night delicious meal. Accompany that with real buttery mashed potatoes and a side of steamed mixed vegetables and it is guaranteed to hit the spot.

Lots of work to do it at home but I usually order it in a nice old school diner that specializes in comfort food.

Obviously not in the "heart healthy food" section of the menu but tasty and filling in moderation.

There's a restaurant out in Glen Ellyn or Lombard that does a pretty good chicken fried steak. Danby's perhaps? Been years since I was there.

Completely agree, Mr. Fella. Urbana Garden has a great chicken fried steak. It’s a greasy spoon just off I 74 on Lincoln ave. It’s the size of the plate. I haven’t had a bad meal there, everything has been good.

Chicken fried steak/chicken/pork tenderloin...you can't really go wrong. Though I have had some pretty bad efforts, where the steak wasn't pounded/tenderized enough and you could hardly cut it, much less chew it.

Rare to find a good gravy.

I’d look with heavy suspicion on anyone that doesn’t enjoy chicken fried steak.

There is a bunch of crap breakfast gravy out there but it’s a heck of a winter meal. Sticks to the ribs (and inside of arteries unfortunately).

It's just reminded me of how good well done biscuits and gravy breakfast can be. I was shocked the first time I had it.

Ms. Biscuit (54th & Wabash) is great - perhaps the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had.

I don't think I've ever ordered it, so I couldn't say if I like it or not.

I’m not a big biscuit guy but make gravy from scratch and use it on a potato and pepper hash brown type thing. Its not heart healthy.

I'm trying that on my hopes and your recommendation my friend. Confidence abounds.

I'm a BIGFAN of biscuits and gravy with sausage mixed in with the breakfast gravy. Good stuff.

Mine was 39th and Parnel. Reds Grill. Back when I was in my 20s this redneck dude with Elvis hair made the best period.

R Place (the truck stop at 80 & 47 in Morris)
Double Yolk Cafe (Woodstock on the square)
Al's Grill (on Madison in Oak Park)
Spencer's Grill (Kirkwood, Missouri)

Most biscuits and gravy I've had are not great, biscuits like bricks and heavy gravy. The state of the art is Mary Lou's in Carbondale. Easily the best I've ever had.

Ricobene's after a Sox game if you want to have your taste buds explode.

Agreed. Chicken fried chicken/steak is awesome. Anybody who doesn't like it is a freedom hater.

Didn't they close (or did they just move locations)?
