I put little stock into PFF’s “grades” but looks like you’re just plain wrong on the wrong angle part, which I suspected.

Amos may not make the splash plays that make safeties famous, he also doesn’t fall into the category of safeties who get notoriety for missing the plays required of him and rarely does he get beat. His overall grade over the past three seasons actually falls into the elite category, ranking third among all safeties with at least 1,000snaps since 2016 at 90.6. In a career that has spanned 2,315 snaps in coverage, he has been beaten for a reception longer than 40 yards just once.

Looks like they’re more or less done.

I like it. Hoping they get Hockenson at 12 or 30 and another edge rusher or OL in the top 44 but I’m not gonna complain about today. Their defense should be much better next year.

Vikes upped their offer and Barr liked the organization anyway.

The report I read made it sound like Barr got physically sick after agreeing to terms with the Jets and that let him know to say fuck this and head back to the vikings

Redskins had a good defense before Haha showed up and ruined it. Preston Smith should earn his money here. Just entering his prime too.

The Bears could take Dix and make him play as good as Amos last year, while the Packers will take Amos and make him play as good as Dix last year.

That's simply not true and not supported by the tape of each player.

Props to you FF. I was on the road the last 2 days and was only able to glance at the back and forth. Nice to see you put the suddenly cocky Bears fans in their place. Next year will be fun. God bless Mitch.

I’m looking forward to it. If Oliver falls to us at 12 I may even start feeling bad for Bears fans. Last year will be like an oasis in the desert.

You sure he starts three preseason games and all 16 regular season games?

If not;

Could Blake Bortles follow Hackett to Green Bay?
The Green Bay Packers could be in the mix for Bortles as well with former Jaguars offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett running the offense for Aaron Rodgers. It would be somewhat of a bizarre move considering Green Bay traded for 2017 second-round pick DeShone Kizer last offseason. But hiring the offensive coordinator of the Jaguars was a strange move too.
Let's do this

Winners: Packers
Green Bay is sitting pretty for the draft after getting two Smiths from the Beltway (former Raven Za'Darius, former Redskin Preston) to replace fading Clay Matthews and Nick Perry as its top edge pass-rushers for Mike Pettine. The Packers also addressed their next biggest defensive need with free safety Adrian Amos, plucking him from the rival Bears. That leaves a ton of flexibility with their two first-round picks, where defensive line and tight end are firmly in play. GM Brian Gutekunst has separated from Ted Thompson with his calculated attack mode.

Losers: Bears
Amos is a tough loss for their secondary, as well as unsigned nickel back Bryce Callahan. Signing Buster Skrine for the slot is a big downgrade, and by not getting into the Bell sweepstakes after not taking a flyer on Kareem Hunt, they settled for Seahawks backup Mike Davis for their offensive backfield. Wide receiver/return man Cordarrelle Patterson doesn't do much to move the needle, either. Chicago and Ryan Pace get a little break for having a busy, effective 2018 offseason, capped by the Khail Mack trade. But this hasn't been much of a follow-up with Green Bay doing real work and neither Detroit or Minnesota getting worse.

Hard to argue.

Before FA I said I couldn't foresee myself complaining about the 12 pick regardless of who they take, and after FA that's even more true now. My top preference would be Hockenson or an OT but I can't foresee getting mad at anyone they take there unless they are dumb enough to draft DK Metcalf that high.

This sounds good to me

The Green Bay Packers made a splash in free agency this week, signing three likely starters on defense and a potential starter at right guard. The addition of pass rushers Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith, safety Adrian Amos and offensive lineman Billy Turner helped fix major holes on the roster and freed GM Brian Gutekunst to execute the draft in any way he likes.

It’s all about picking the best players and finding the best value now.

Here’s a stab at one potential four-round scenario, taking into account what the Packers already accomplished to start free agency and using The Draft Network’s mock draft simulator:

1.12: DL Ed Oliver, Houston
Mike Pettine wants as much interior disruption as he can get. Who cares if the Packers just signed two rushers? Give that defensive line a combination of Oliver, Kenny Clark, Mike Daniels, Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith and Pettine will melt quarterbacks.

1.30: OL Chris Lindstrom, Boston College
Billy Turner has the athleticism and versatility to be a nice addition to the offensive line, but he can only solve one problem. The Packers need a starter at right guard and a future starter at right tackle, plus a reliable backup behind Bryan Bulaga in 2019. Lindstrom can provide the answer at either spot. He’s athletic, reliable and consistent, with experience at guard and tackle. Easy, safe pick here.

2.44: TE Irv Smith Jr., Alabama
Smith isn’t as big or athletic as the Iowa tight ends, but his tape at Alabama shows a tough, dual-threat player who is comfortable blocking from several positions and catching the football at all levels of the field. Matt LaFleur was building his entire offense around Delanie Walker in Tennessee last season. Smith compares favorably. There’s Pro Bowl potential here, and LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers can unlock it.

3.75: S Amani Hooker, Iowa
Amos gives Pettine a smart and interchangeable piece at safety, but adding Hooker here completes the Packers’ rebuild on the backend. Hooker gives off strong Micah Hyde vibes, with big-time versatility, football IQ and coverage skills. He’s also bigger and a much better athlete than Hyde. Amos and Hooker could make for a terrific safety combo.

4.114: EDGE Joe Jackson, Miami
Never stop stockpiling rushers. Jackson is a nice combination of both Za’Darius and Preston Smith. He’s almost the identical size to Preston, but he plays like Za’Darius. Jackson took a big step his final year at Miami. He has starting-level traits on the edge.

4.118: WR Terry McLaurin, Ohio State
There’s so much to like about McLaurin’s fit in Green Bay. He tested in the elite athletic range at 6-0 and 205 pounds. He’s a polished, experienced route runner. He can beat press at the line of scrimmage from the perimeter, win vertically with speed and create separation from the slot. He’s going to be a more productive pro than he was at Ohio State, especially if he lands in Green Bay. Bet on it.

Kinda sorta almost this, actually.

Quote:
Barr was on NFL Network explaining his choice, which is rare but understandable.

“It was mostly when I hung up the phone after saying, ‘Yeah I can do New York,’” Barr told NFL Network, via NFL.com. “My stomach dropped, I kind of get some cold sweats.

“It was like you're about to go down the altar and marry the wrong woman. I think I'm making a bad choice. I did what I felt was right for myself.”

Contracts couldn’t be signed until the free agency period began Wednesday afternoon, so Barr wasn’t locked into anything.

Barr had said before free agency started that he wanted to stay with the Vikings. He had spent five seasons with them, and made four Pro Bowls. It’s a big change to move from Minnesota to New York. He presumably has many relationships in Minnesota, including his teammates and coaches there.

The Vikings came back with a better offer, reportedly still not more than the Jets, but enough for Barr to stay. There’s value in happiness as well.

“And we were able to figure it out,” Barr said on NFL Network. “So I made a commitment to my heart, to myself, to my team and I'm happy to be back here.”

If there is one thing you can take to the bank its a grindy TE from Iowa. I am all in.

Kiper and McShay both have the other Iowa TE (Fant) with the 30th pick. Im good with that but the big concern is they also have the Packers selecting DK Metcalf with 12...please don’t. Classic combine stud, player bust.

I said awhile back Metcalf is the only pick that could upset me at 12 and I don’t think they’ll do it.

Absolutely cannot go wrong at 12 with Oliver, Hock, Burns, White/Bush, or one of the top 2 OTs.

Ideally I’d love:

Oliver, Harry, Adderly

Oliver was much more highly thought of going into the season than coming out of it.

The guys that know what they are doing still think very highly of him. He's going to be a beast. College ball was too easy for him. I doubt he will be there at 12 but if he is that would be a game changer.

Looking forward to diving in to this later this afternoon. It starts out promising.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/282 ... -green-bay

Quote:
There had to be a breaking point. An incident, an argument, a loss, a moment that doomed the football marriage of Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy.

Anyone could see the Packers quarterback and head coach were headed for divorce well before that inconceivable 20-17 loss to the lowly Cardinals in December, the one that finally got McCarthy fired. Death stares and defiance from Rodgers had been constant for years by then.

But how far back do you have to go to find the beginning of the end?

Was it Week 3 of the 2017 season, when cameras caught Rodgers barking "Stupid f--king call!" at his coach?

Or back further, to the NFC Championship Game on Jan. 18, 2015, when McCarthy coached with the ferocity of a sloth, calling for field goals from the 1-yard line twice in the first half and then running three straight times with five minutes left to infuriate his QB and effectively euthanize a Super Bowl season?

Or even earlier, to 2013, when Rodgers and McCarthy appeared close to throwing haymakers midway through a loss in Cincinnati?

Those who observed this relationship from the beginning say you have to keep going.

Back to the honeymoon period. Even as the Packers went 15-1 in 2011, with Rodgers as league MVP. Even as they won their last Super Bowl title, in the 2010 season, with Rodgers as Super Bowl MVP. Even then, Rodgers was already seething at his coach.

So keep going. All the way to when these two were first brought together. In early 2006.

The worst-kept secret at 1265 Lombardi Avenue was that Rodgers seemed to loathe his coach from the moment McCarthy was hired.

Nobody holds a grudge in any sport like Rodgers. When it comes to Rodgers, grudges do not merrily float away. They stick. They grow. They refuel.

No, Rodgers would not forget that McCarthy had helped perpetuate his four-and-a-half-hour wait in the NFL draft green room the year prior. His nationally televised embarrassment. McCarthy, then the 49ers offensive coordinator, chose Alex Smith No. 1 overall. Not Rodgers.

No, Rodgers would not take it as a funny accident.

"Aaron's always had a chip on his shoulder with Mike," says Ryan Grant, the Packers' starting running back from 2007 to 2012. "The guy who ended up becoming your coach passed on you when he had a chance. Aaron was upset that Mike passed on him—that Mike actually verbally said that Alex Smith was a better quarterback."

Great article

Murphy made it clear that Rodgers would need to accept coaching. "Don't be the problem," he told him. "Don't be the problem."

Narrator: Aaron would be the problem

Still yet TBD. The only other constant variable - who most definitely was a/the problem - has been removed. We'll see how Aaron does next season.

This seems accurate

If LaFleur does strike that tricky balance and revitalizes Rodgers, Jennings thinks his old QB can enter the GOAT/Brady stratosphere. He's just not sure how willing Rodgers is when the quarterback's first public comments about the hire, at the NFL Honors, started off with the words, "A lot of change, in life in general, it's tough at first." That's all he needed to hear. To Jennings, that quote practically guaranteed how this will go down.

"I know how Aaron operates," Jennings says. "For him to make that statement, it already lets me know he's going to make it hard on a young Matt LaFleur."
