It makes sense for casual fans. I wouldn't mind them bastardizing baseball (should be allowed to tackle/punch a baserunner to knock them out) to make MLB more interesting to me but I don't think overall it's a smart thing for MLB to consider.

This rule would make the game better without question. Onside kicks are dumb and even dumber with the recent rule changes that made a very unlikely play even more unlikely.

Really, kickoffs should be eliminated altogether.

Baseball is perfect.

This will happen, you guys will get used to it and eventually love it.

And your comparisons are terrible. It's not changing everything about the game. It's still football. And now, getting the ball back is based on skill and not luck.

You guys are arguing in favor of letting "how a football happens to bounce" vs "being good at offense/defense" determining winners.

You cant compare it to baseball, because baseball doesnt have anything as dumb and unnecessary as the onside kick.

Since they've ruined the kickoff (which was one of the most exciting plays for fans), they might as well go with this suggestion (scoring team gets the ball in their own territory, 4th and 20 or whatever, and can punt or go for it). And do it the whole game, not just the 4th qtr.

While we're at it, let's add a 4- and 5-pt line in the NBA.

Those are hypothetical answers to the question, "how do you speed up the game"

But if you ask me, the game is fine as is

The Wild Card game is absolutely worse than onside kicks.

The NBA stole the 3-point shot from the ABA. I would have preferred that they stole the red/white/blue ball instead.

The statheads know what the proper distance is to make the % chance of conversion the same as the onside kick conversion used to before they started fucking with all the kickoff rules.

What I like about the conversion is now you can score with just 1 second left and be able to score again on the very next play. Granted, it'd be a Hail Mary from the 35 (or the 28 if you use the AAF rule), but I feel that such a rule would cut back on the amount of stupid prevent defence you see in the last two minutes of a game.

The 4 and 5 pt line and the phrasing "while were at it" led me to believe you were being sarcastic.

Like the idea, it just made the QB position a little more valuable. Picture a gassed 4th quarter defense going against Tom Brady or Mahomes now. They may be able to cover 21 points in the last 2 minutes.

I'd also think you have to figure out how penalties work. With an onside kick, the kicking team doesn't get position on a receiving penalty. In theory, a pass interference calls would now be a turnover. That seems a bit sketchy toward the offense.

The NFL has kicked ass for 100 years. No country in the world can touch 'Merica in football. It's that fucking great. Is it always perfect? no, nothing is, but people need to stfu about gimmicky up the sport with your stupid beta-cuck ideas and let the great game be.

The kick off situation is broken.

Id be fine returning to rules from 10 years ago, but the current situation sucks. (Touchbacks almost always)

They had to give up the old style kickoffs or the burritos like Bernstein were going to try and ban football. It sucks but what can you do.

The rules were fine (from a fan's standpoint). I would have actually moved the kicks back to almost ensure a return on every kick.

With the current situation, if they don't switch to the proposal in the original post, then they should just give the team the ball on their own 20 and eliminate kicks period. (The absurdity is that punts still exist, despite being even moire dangerous than kickoffs.) But the NFL needs to create artificial excitement at the end of the game by giving the losing team a shot, so they need to figure out how to replace the onsides kick.
