The only one I remember was a Justice League box.

Superfriends?

Exactly! With a matching thermos.

I forgot about the NFL one....we had that one year, as well.

I think I always brown bagged it, but every now and again, I would be given $2 to get the 4"x6" pizza lunch... those were heady days.

I looked for an image of my DOH metal lunchbox and thermos, the ones I've seen posted here seem familiar but I'm almost positive mine was different. Pretty sure I had a Yoda-related plastic one at some point too.

Mrs. Fella always tells the story of how she came home from school unexpectedly one day around noon.

The lunch ladies told the kids to form two lines - HOT lunch and COLD lunch. She had a brown paper sack that contained her WARM lunch.

She told my future mother in law that there was no line for her so she just left school and walked home.

100% true story.

One day I remember leaving my lunch in the car on accident so I was lunchless. I went over to the cafeteria that they had (it was a weird school, cafeteria was mostly for preschool kids while all older kids brought lunch from home) because school didn’t want me to go hungry. They had some disgusting quiche like casserole concoction that I took one bite out of and went “nope” I’m good. When mom picked me up the lunch box was in the car and I scarfed that sandwich, ding ding and chips down. I don’t believe I ever left lunch at home again.

Stupid should be painful. Or, at least you should suffer a little to learn the lesson, not like 30 days in the hole suffer, but "starving" at 3pm suffer.

We had all first-generation German immigrant lunch ladies and man, could they ever cook. Delicious foods. I can't imagine not eating the hot lunch. And, in seventh and eight grades, you got to go back for seconds to help "clean it up!". A second PB&J sammich and tomato soup? Hells yeah! No wonder I'm the ideal weight for a guy a foot taller than I am.

Yeah, it wasn’t that bad to not get lunch but something about 1st grader being hungry was obviously more worrisome to teachers than my mom who probably would have been more tough love. After all she knew it was in car and didn’t turn around.

 I hear that. We were lucky to have almost all older Italian ladies who were great cooks in the cafeteria. Nothing brought them more joy than scooping extra helpings on those school lunch trays. "Eat-a-some more! You feel better!"
As we waddled to gym class sick!

That's part of my childhood as well. I was more than a little surprised to see the same people drop anything to get those forgotten lunches, fees, homework or gym clothes for their grandkids. When I asked about it once, they claimed to do the same for my siblings and I.

Best sweet potato pie I've ever had was from a group of lunchladies who had my fourth grade class in the kitchen to learn how to make it and some of the food we had every day.

My daughter forgot things a couple of times and I told her if I was coming back into town for some reason, say parts for a tractor, I’d swing by with it but otherwise tell your teacher I’ll bring it when school is out to pick you up and if that’s not okay, than you best b prepared to suffer the consequences. Had the principal call me over on one of those occasions to tell me good job and he often had to tell parents to not bail their kids out. Amazingly, it never happened after 6th grade.

By the time I hit junior high I knew better to even ask if I forgot gym clothes. It rarely happened but I won’t say never.
