I've often seen this place praised for it's pizza, both here and other places but I didn't even know they had frozen pizzas in stores.
Then again, I haven't lived near a Jewel since 2005 until recently, so I bought one last night. Sausage and Mushroom. It was approx. 3 lbs and cost like $9.87 which is kinda pricey for frozen, but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

I thought the sauce was a bit bland, the sausage, while being plentiful lacked in salt, and the mushrooms at least didn't come from a can.
I'm sure it's way better at their joint, wherever it is, but $10 I could've gotten a Ginos frozen with enough $ to spare on a Home Run Inn to go with it. It was good, maybe next time I'll try the pepperoni, if they're ever on sale.

All in all, it reminded me of Wells Brothers in Racine, WI. Awesome reputation, meh product.
At least I don't have to worry about getting shot on the way to Jewel, unlike being anywhere near Wells Brothers...

Almost bought one of these on Friday. I knew that I had tried it at some point and felt the same way you did. I was going to give it another try but then
went with a Connies frozen which ended up being very good, plus it was on sale for like $5.99.

The cracker crust is good, but the rest is not Vito and Nick's quality. Still a decent frozen pizza.

DiGiorno's Four Cheese is the King of frozen.

Oh really? They must have them at Woodman's then? I never really got out there when I lived in KTown.
Connie's is solid, their sauce is one of my favorites.

And as far as Delaney going to Wells Brothers, I don't want to shit on a place I've only been to once, (10 years ago),
but at the time, everything I had read about it made me think it was going to be the greatest pizza ever created, but it's mediocrity was what has made it memorable to me. Plus, it's in a terrible neighborhood. We went on a weekday afternoon after going to the Racine Zoo, and there were dudes on porches holding, in broad daylight, and armed POLICE in the parking lot to escort people inside. Not kidding. I wouldn't make the trip again.

The $2.50 Jack's are actually pretty good value. Go with the plain cheese and doctor it up however you want and you've got a pretty good pie.

We used to buy the Jewel frozen pizzas back in the day. I think they were 32oz and 4 for $10 for cheese and sausage. Add bacon and whatever else and they were awesome!

I do the same, but with either Palermo's or Meijer brand...both have decent sauce...and that's something to work with...

I don't see any reason to buy expensive frozen pizza. They never measure up to the fresh. So just go with the cheap thin crust and add your own ingredients.

Yeah, I'm with you guys on the doctored up cheap ones like Jacks, Orv's, Palermos.
Jewel used to make an undeniably good frozen but they must have changed it somehow over the last 30 years
because they're nowhere near as good as I remember when I was a kid.

I think a friend once told me he had a friend that worked at a food mfg. plant and they literally made like 10 different brands from the same source materials. They just would slap a different brand logo on them. That's probably one of the reasons every single crust ends up tasting like wet cardboard. Jack's Supercheese was also a staple growing up. And I used to live on Tombstone too before I really knew any better. one of my main problems is that all the sausage and pep on the cheap ones are all Chicken/pork/beef - whereas real Italian sausage should only be pork. Same reason I won't eat cheap hot dogs.

Anyway, I knew some of you have had the real thing at V&N's and wanted to share my experience....

I have not bought a frozen pizza in years....it takes all of 5 min to prep your own with a pre-made crust....the one by Angelic (Flatzza) are great....also use Naan bread.

Aldi Take n Bake is very close to this. $4.99 for a 16" cheese, throw your own veggies on at home or just have it as is. As far as take home/frozen pizzas its one of the best out there.

I get the Aldi's take and bake sometimes. The sauce is bland and feels non existent but I get the supreme and the toppings are tasty.

IF you can find it wherever you live, there's a Kenosha bakery called Paellis that sells frozen balls of pizza dough in grocery stores. That's what I've always used, as its always been more pizza crust instead of crunchy bread like Boboli. I've never heard of Flatzaa....

It’s too cheap to not buy a rolled out dough ball from Roasati’s and a couple sides of pizza sauce for $4. Get some whole milk mozzarella and chicken sausage from the store and you got yourself a fast homemade pizza for under $10.

My Rosati’s in south Tempe is legit. First one in AZ. Owner’s from Schaumburg. It doesn’t have to be Rosati’s though. Any place where you can buy a rolled out dough ball and some sauce will do. You can figure out cheese and ingredients. Just pop that sucker into the oven.
