Regular Reader knows that he’s quoting a William DeVaughn composition, but he’s fucking with my head, as per usual.

I love it when people say that their favorite Curtis Mayfield track is “Be Thankful For What You Got”. Only problem is that it was a #1 hit by a guy whose name is NOT Curtis Mayfield. Last I checked, anyway.

It's always been "Diamond In The Back" to me and I guess most people. Hell we sang it all the time as kids when we saw a matching Fleetwood Brougham rolling down the street with a Landau(?) top and boomerang antenna on the trunk. I honestly never knew of this issue until this morning. Oddly I mis-remember it being part of the original SuperFly soundtrack as well.

Beyond that, how could your favorite Mayfield track be anything other than "Move On Up"?

"Pusherman" was my favorite.

Yep. Sadly enough if you grew up around as many drug addicts and pushers as I did that song literally speaks to you. I still play it today.

Curtis' best work. But I'm a teeny bit older than you guys.

Why can't we brothers
Protect one another
No one's serious
And it makes me furious
Don't be misled
Just think of Fred

I still do as well. And remember a lot of long gone faces and places.

My all-time favorite is I’m So Proud.

Most underrated has to be Man Oh Man. It was originally released in 1965 as a b-side. Several of The Impressions greatest hits albums don’t contain it. It’s an undeniably classic song.

I feel the same way about Stevie Wonder’s Place In The Sun. It’s not represented on quite a few of his greatest hits collections, but it might actually be my personal favorite from him.

There is so much truth in that intro.
