Yes, but this line in particular:

Quote:
I have more in common with the fans in the crowd at your average NBA game than I have with the players on the court.

Do you really, though? This is a weird sort of twist-and-a-half on Joakim Noah saying he plays for the guys in the 300 level, which gave Dan Bernstein a conniption fit because to him this meant Noah wasn't playing on behalf of, like, Rich Melman or something. Kyle Korver seems to think the white bourgeoisie are his people more than his black peers are. NBA tickets aren't cheap, anyone who's at a game is probably doing fine, but there's still a pretty big gap between some Salt Lake City car dealer at a Jazz game and a guy who has made tens of millions of dollars, and not only that, has made those millions in much more proximity to black people and black culture than the aforementioned SLC car dealer.

I dont know what to say about Korver and this overall.

But I think this is what he meant about having more in common...

In other words, I can say every right thing in the world: I can voice my solidarity with Russ after what happened in Utah. I can evolve my position on what happened to Thabo in New York. I can be that weird dude in Get Out bragging about how he’d have voted for Obama a third term. I can condemn every racist heckler I’ve ever known.

But I can also fade into the crowd, and my face can blend in with the faces of those hecklers, any time I want.

There aren't black people in the crowds of NBA games heckling people? Police don't injure or fuck up the lives of non-black people?

It's pearl clutching nonsense. Kyle Korver has far more in common with Russel Westbrook than he does with you or I. They are famous multimillionaires.

He can blend in with white people. Russell Westbrook can not. I believe that is what he is saying, he's being literal. Take whatever you want from it.

So he is saying that black people and white people look different? Deep. It certainly needed to be stated.

Yeah, this thread is hilarious in how over the top the reaction to him saying "yeah, I realized I had a bit of a blind spot when it comes to racial issues in America and Im working on it" is.

I was made to believe to this point that white NBA players did not have such blind spots. How do you live your whole life within competitive-to-professional basketball and not realize black people have it bad until Thabo Sefolosha got jumped by the cops?

It's because it's a ridiculous public flagellation that's part of this new national religion. The idea that people from similar backgrounds, performing the same unique job have less in common than people who look similar is equal parts ignorant and dangerous.

We are moving away from the idea of the individual.

Be sure to include the news that Megadeth is playing a State Fair.

The same reason that people here still deny black people have it bad despite countless stories like Thabo’s. I would think you wouldn’t find it all that difficult to understand.

Riveting debate. So you know that the cops were racists looking to beat up a black person, and that's the only reason it happened. You also know that this happens "all the time".

If you disagree go ahead and point out what you find false or off about it. It's nothing personal.

Looks like black shootings are about half of white people.

But there are way more white people. More than the half difference. So according to that chart, a higher percentage of black people are shot, correct?

I feel horrible for millionaire athletes who are infinitely more wealthy than I am, have a purpose in life through a profession that is meaningful, and are considered an elite group that is looked highly upon by society. And just to show that I am not virtue signalling, I am signing up to serve their gourmet peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and specially formulated water on the weekends. I give back to the community!

That's because we can't even agree upon what racism is anymore. It's a catchall conversation ender, and a magical force affecting all things.

Hopefully. Especially considering he’s already comfortable financially I’m sure he would’ve preferred them not breaking his leg or whatever to begin with.

Black people commit more violent crimes, and are more likely to be in an encounter with the police by percentage as well.

If the police were really the enemy of black people as some elected officials claims would you not expect far more black people than white people to be shot? Given that it isn't the case maybe we can look at individual actions to see if there was bias involved instead of saying: police are racist and out to get black people.

Ok, Im just trying to establish what that chart is saying.

The chart indicates a higher percentage of black people are shot, so to present it as evidence that police DONT target black people more is kind of odd.

I understand black people are arrested more for violent crimes, too.

There is no one simple chart to prove anything in such a complicated issue.

I will say this though, there are definitely cops who are racist and would admit it to friends, family or anonymously on second city cop. So, some do definitely hate black people and target them more. Maybe it's a tiny percentage, maybe its not.

There should be police saber metrics so this isn’t so debatable.

Seems irrelevant to FF's post.

The police behavior was the police behavior. What happened after doesnt change that. It's good if they were held accountable, though.
