Got fitted and bought new irons yesterday. Not the most thorough fitting job since I told the guy I was only looking at the Mizuno 919 Forged irons and only wanted to look at the different stock shaft options. With my game, I'm not paying up to $3000 for irons. Was only there about 25 minutes for the 1.5 hour session. Ended up with steel shafts that are 30 grams lighter than the shafts I was using, but still stiff since I have good club speed. Upgraded to grips I liked that were also stock options and was able to get the set for $1500 total including the fitting charge. Should be here in 2-3 weeks.

Curious what kind of shafts you got in there. I got the KBS in my irons a few years ago when I got custom fit and I love them. What did you do with grips? Pretty cool that you can get exactly what you want rather than buy off the rack and then have to fix it yourself like the old days. What range of irons did you end up with? 5-PW or the full 3-PW?

honestly don't even know what shafts I got. Grips were the same golf pride grips I have now, only the next level up.

Went with 5-Gap rather than 4-PW.

Did they look like this? You'd be a lot cooler if they did.

definitely not fancy like that. Are those stock options at Mizuno? Don't think I tried anything that looked like that.

Should be a no-charge option, I think they were stock on the 900s, not sure about the 919s. Just a really smooth shaft.

I'll make more of a decision on it when the greens are a higher quality. For now we have been leaving it in and works well when playing with others as it speeds the game up around the green and putting up. We figured it probably saved us a minute a hole. I think I will take it out for shorter range putts but for long lags or tricky down hill putts I think the stats are there to back up leaving it in.

Quote:
Only in the rarest of cases is a flagstick going to “catch” a missing putt and drop it in the hole. Even the most highly skilled putter—given standard deviations—is going to hit the flagstick dead-center only 27.6 percent of the time. For that remaining 72.4 percent, the golfer isn't hitting the pin straight-on, and it's always a disadvantage for making putts in these instances.

Finally using my 3 year old gift card to Top Golf Friday with my wife and step son. Weather looks like it will cooperate for early golf Saturday and Sunday mornings. The standard 6am tee times return the following weekend which will be nice.

Got a pretty busy weekend coming up, but I'm hoping I may be able to get out for 9 holes Saturday morning.

Tomorrow it kicks off with 18. Hopefully rain holds off until later but I am not even going to pretend with the Penske file I am taking off.

Got out of work a bit early today. Cold, overcast, windy and possible rain. I was able to walk 18 and not get rained on in 2.5 hours. Course was empty but wet and a rough hilly walk. Managed a 77 with two three putts on par 5s. This weekend will be interesting. There is a Callaway fitting next weekend and I might sign up to look at a different shaft. I don't think I'm getting enough spin in mine.

Saturday and Sunday look great for golf. I look forward to shooting 83-85, like I always do.

Not gonna happen. The big storm gonna get us. Instead waiting on buddy and work at the covered range and have lunch. Supposedly this range has monitoring equipment. Will see what they charge.

Was able to hit a few balls at the range last weekend; was pleasantly surprised by the result - was probably due in part to recently getting back on the fitness train for the first time in a couple of years.

Weather in Central Ohio blows and will blow tomorrow. Not gonna be worth playing Sunday. I’m on call, anyway, so my next outing will have to wait :?

Windy as hell but still shot 82 today and I didn't really hit the ball that well. I missed 4 putts within 6 feet that I thought were good strokes. I need to remember that the wind effects putts too. More of the same tomorrow!

Very strong north wind today. Steady 15-20 mph with gusts stronger. The layout was essentially half downwind and half into. Hitting 2-3 clubs extra dead in. Anyway I got taken behind the barn with three doubles and a triple. Finished with an 84 but I hit some very poor shots. Best news was I talked to the pro about signing up for a Callaway demo day to get a different shaft on the driver. I showed him what I had and he offered to swap out to a lighter shaft off one of his Epics. From 70g to 55g. Told me if I didn't like it I could swap back or change to another shaft. It worked out pretty well but I will give it another run tomorrow on a different course where I will use it more often. Only hit it 6 times today but mostly solid. So happy to be back looping with my guys, gambling a bit, and busting balls out there.

Tough day again yesterday. One of the courses is having a significant redesign so they just opened the back nine and then you finish on the line nine hole course. Nice layout but it is very hilly the last ten holes. Never felt so wiped out. Very dizzy walking last three holes. I’ll continue to work on my fitness. Not in “golf shape” yet.

Got my new irons on Saturday, well except for the missing 9 iron, but I assume I'll be picking that up at Club Champion today. Decided to go for it and play 9 yesterday despite playing hockey at 6:30 am. Back was sore, but was able to swing just fine. Played the front 9 at Mt. Prospect. Started out slicing my drives as I was trying to remember how to swing, but by halfway through the round I was hitting them dead straight and then on #8 had a really nice draw. Then on 9 I hooked one OB. So went from slicing to hooking by end of the day. Always happy to see the ball going left with the driver even if it's a hook.

Sliced the irons as well, but had a couple nice ones by the end of the round. Hit 2 hybrids as well as I hit any hybrid all last season. 4 3-putts were not a surprise especially on those greens. Tripled #1, had a quad on #9 and had a double in there as well, but played the other six holes at #1 to finish with a 45.

I was very happy with how my back held up for the round. I could see myself transitioning to more of a 9 hole golfer since I plan on playing a lot of weekend morning hockey this summer. Plus, not spending 7-8 hours on the weekend door to door to get a round of golf in is a very nice bonus.

That stinks.

85 yesterday at Mt. Prospect. Ended up going off as a single between two foursomes. Was able to hit a few additional approach shots on the first couple of holes to see how the the greens react. Actually made for a nice practice round. The group ahead of me moved along fairly well until the last few holes and the alcohol kicked in. Clown show. Still managed to play in 3:45. Got a bit quick on my takeaway and had a case of the lefts. Hit some nice recovery shots, though.

not necessarily. If the course is full of 4-somes then there is nowhere for the single to go. In that scenario the course really shouldn't be sending out a single unless that single knows the deal and doesn't have an issue with it. Or the single can take a chance and skip around and try and find some open holes to play. Plenty of times as a single I've completed 18 holes in a totally different order.

golf league at Sportsman starts up tonight! Very excited after sitting out last year on the DL. Looking forward to hanging out with all the fellas in the league again. It's a very relaxed league, great group of guys.

Going to be a night before decision for me, might be a small window early for me up here but we will see. Might take a cart with a buddy and try to get 18 in under 2.5 hours. Sunday looks dry but chilly.

Edit- cancelling this weekend. Calling for 3-7 inches of snow starting tomorrow afternoon

Yeah you guys are getting screwed up the ass, Tbone. This weather is very frustrating. Easter weekend was nice, but the majority of "spring" weekends have been windy, cold, wet, and generally miserable.

I have a 6am tee time for tomorrow as earlier in the week it looked like there might be a window to get 12-15 dry holes in. That window appears to be closing
