Agreed. The temperaments of the animals are interesting though. The pit is bred for conflict. The tiger is programmed to avoid it but will end it real fucking quick if needed.

We already know it. I don't know... I just find their behavior fascinating. Big cats are funny. They will pretty much avoid any chance of getting injured with only a few exceptions. It makes sense... their goal is to survive, not to be king badass.

Dogs are bred for much different reasons. Their features are no longer those that make them best suited to survive in the wild. Now, they just have the features we have bred into them.

Surely you're not suggesting a dog would stand a chance against a tiger or lion?

A leopard would fuck a dog up quick, forget about a lion or tiger.

My friend and her dog got attacked by a pitbull on Whipple yesterday. The fucker leaped over a fence. There are several dogs in this yard in the 3800 block. You ever run into these savages when you were walking your dog over there, shakes?

Is she a victim if she didn't know the pit bull attacked her?

Not if the pit was black.

I was out walking my pit bull the other day, and some guy (not someguy, at least I don't think) let his little shirt-wearing 15 lb dog out of his house unleashed. His dog saw my dog and start to run up to her, and the guy didn't seem to have a care in the world. He had a pretty long driveway, so there was plenty of time to try to call it back, but nothing, he just watched it unfold. Luckily my dog loves other dogs, so they met and it was fine, but still my dog can look kind of intimidating at times, so I'm thinking this guy saw an opportunity to get rid of his dog problem and took it. Sorry pal, not today.

I was riding my bike through Northwest Evanston about a month ago and two big dogs came running out of a park and charged at me. I had to stop for fear they would knock me over. One was a German Shepherd and the other was a large scary looking pitbull. They weren't mean, but they were obviously excited and the pitbull was nipping at the Shepherd as they ran. They both had collars but no information or tags. I could tell that they had escaped a yard or house. They were simultaneously afraid and exhilarated. They were looking for their Alpha (presumably their owner), but they were also happy to be free of him/her. Every time I started to ride, they wanted to chase me. So I had to stand there until they lost interest and walked away. But as soon as I began riding again, they came running. All three of us were stopped in the street when a black SUV came to the intersection. The dogs became more excited and appeared to want to get in the SUV. I assume maybe their owner had a similar vehicle and they thought it was him. The Shepherd stood directly in front of the vehicle so it couldn't move. The asshole driver leaned on the horn and started gesticulating wildly at me. His wife rolled down the window and I informed her they weren't my dogs.

I had to get back home somehow so I began walking my bike with the dogs trotting alongside me. A guy came out of his house and the dogs rushed up on him. He began petting them but he was obviously wary of the pitbull. I asked if they were his dogs. We had a little miscommunication and he thought they were my dogs. His wife opened the front door and he asked her if she knew the dogs. She said she had seen them being walked around the neighborhood but did not know the owners. The guy asked her if he should put them in their yard. She said, "No, and don't let [name of their presumably small dog] out there now either." I said, "Hey listen, can you just put them in your yard long enough so I can ride away without them following me?" He obliged.

My niece recently returned to Chicago and is staying with my parents until she can get back on her feet. She brought with her a now eight month old part pit bull mutt. Unfortunately as the puppy isn't well trained yet and likes to chew on everything, she's been banished to what had been extra office space in an area just behind my office. I don't particularly care for dogs, but I can't stand to see/hear her stuck back by herself whining when I'm here. Plus I figure that being stuck with nothing to play or interact with, she'll turn antisocial whereas now she's extremely friendly to people.

As I sit here typing, she's going stir crazy and wants attention. If her owner wasn't my favorite niece, I'd actually be really pissed.

Puppies need lots of toys, exercise, and stimulation. leash is the sober dog whisperer, so he may have some good ideas for what to do.

Depending on how long she stays there you could def make a dif in the trajectory of that dog’s life if you have the time RR.

I know all of this, but I really don't have much patience, and it's really hard for me to keep up with her. She's really fast and strong already.

I know it isn't nor should it be your responsibility, RR, but that pup needs training, stimulation, and socialization. Right now it's going to have a frustrating, miserable existence until it's deemed to be too much of a handful and dropped off at CACC, where it will live in a cage 24/7 until it's put down, because with limited resources rescues are unlikely to pull an untrained, under-socialized dog.

yup. we drop off our 2 y/o pitt mix at daycare every weekday. it's magical. pick her up at 5:30 and she's exhausted. she lounges until 9pm and then puts herself to bed.

on weekends she's a pain in the ass unless we go to the dog park for an hour. walking her is the bare minimum and does little to zap her energy unless it's an hour+ one.

That's the kicker, my parents home sits on a 1/3rd of an acre, fully fenced lot. She easily can spend a little time outside with her and really leave her out in good weather more often. If she calms down I may end up taking her myself if/when I get better.
