Do you consider this more of a product of you being untalented or unfunny?

The point about upper level ticket holders being prevented from entering the lower level concourse is a valid one--that restriction has always irritated me.

But the monologue itself wasn't funny.

There is a way around this, Tall Midget. Everybody is allowed in the bullpen bar before the game. If you have upper deck ticket, go to the bar before the game.

Once you leave the bar somebody will ask to see your ticket and direct you up stairs or to the lower deck. Dig into all of your pockets and act shocked that you can't find your ticket. Then tell the guy you lost it and you're in the lower bowl. What's he gonna do? Is he not gonna believe you and fight with you? You're already in the park. Is he gonna make you go to the upper deck? No.

Then you can find a better seat down low. If it's a sell out and you can't find a seat then you go to your upper deck seat.

This worked for me once.

Or just walk in with a crowd at the "checkpoint" for the lower bowl. Find a dumb looking kid, hold your ticket and walk by with authority. Its worked for me 4 times total, twice this year.

My buddy did that too. The guy saw it was an upper deck ticket but he just walked past him. The kid yelled "hey stop."

But he can't chase you. He's got more people he needs to check. Plus, the kid makes nothing for this job. Do you think he really cares?

Exactly. If there's a small group walking in with you, and you find the right person you can easily get to the lower bowl. I never thought of the bullpen bar idea. I'm sure that works too.

One time, my idea didn't work, so I walked upstairs, then looped around to the 3rd base side, walked down and got in. The only time this wont work is if you are walking up to the checkpoint alone, which is usually never unless you're trying this after the 1st inning.

We've also done the ticket relay in which 1 person goes out to "smoke" and hands the ticket stubs to the rest of us on the ramp.

Thanks for the advice, Beardown and Frank. If I can't get a lower bowl ticket, I'm going to give one of these suggestions a try in the coming weeks.

Walk up to those checkpoints within say 10 minutes before or after first pitch and you should not have an issue. There's so many people going up the ramps at that point, they can't possibly look at every single ticket. But you gotta pick the right person. You can generally get by just by looking for the young kid who doesn't give a shit. Not sure I'd try it would work for the Cubs series, or during the playoffs though. Odds are they will be better staffed then.

If you are gonna try that bullpen bar trick keep in mind that there is only one entrance to get to the bullpen bar if you have upper deck tickets.

If you have lower bowl it doesn't matter cuz you can just walk there.

I did that a couple years ago with the bar. Maybe they are on to that.

Frank's way is probably the best. Go in with a crowd and act confident as you walk by the guy.

It helps if you have a ticket. I went to 2 Anahiem games back to back. Took Slappy's season ticket stub from the nite before, and all they saw was the picture of the Fisk statue on it, and there was no questions asked.

If it's a last minute purchase sometimes the lower level is sold out. I usually buy an outfield ticket and find some where else to sit.

From here on out the lower level will be sold out for just about all of the remaining games. Most of the uper deck will be sold out too.

The Sox will be averaging 33 to 35 thousand the rest of the year.

Sometimes I suspect that the grilled onions at upstairs hotdog stands are previous day's leftovers from the downstairs.

This might be a stupid question, but I picked up a couple tix on StubHub in the upper box and the seller claimed that "these tickets also allow 100-level access."

Is this just another way of saying "bullpen bar access," or do certain tickets allow lower level access in certain situations?

I don't know. Maybe they sell a pass to the lower level for upper deck tickets. That sounds stupid though. Maybe the seller was bullshiting you.

Oh well, it'll be worth a try. At 15 bucks a pop, I'm not really expecting much.

with season tickets you can go to the 100 level as you please. this has helped me a ton, as i can get served by the cutie at down the line beer + wine.

Exactly. Unless it's for the World Series I wouldn't even consider getting upper deck tickets. I worked at the Cell when I was in high school; the seats there suck. If the lower level tickets are actually sold out for the game (and you can't pick them up on StubHub or some equivalent) then just watch it on TV.
By the way, when I worked there I let everyone onto the lower level. If I got stuck with the shitty assignment of working the entrances (which meant I couldn't see the game) then all motivation to "work" was pretty much gone. That type of blatant insubordination is what inadvertantly got me permanently placed in section 139.

I generally decide to go to several games each season at the last minute. This means that I can get lower bowl tickets only about 50% of the time. Some of the upper bowl seats are decent, some not.

Sections 516-548 ($17-$24) up until about half way up are all pretty good. More people with kids started to show up there in the last couple years which seriously interferes with freedom of expression though.

Somtimes upper tank seats are dirt cheap, or free. I have won upper deck seats twice this year, was able to get downstairs during the Angels series and will try again Friday nite. I have tickets in August against the Royals, in which I got upper deck seats for $5 a piece.
