Bears defense will be #1 Ranked and the offense will be somewhere #5-7. That's a championship.

Bad thought. You couldn't even do better than a split last year and that was with a hurt Rodgers and a lame duck worthless fuck like McCarthy at the helm

How are the Bears going to ascend from the 21st offense in 2018 to a top-7 offense in 2019? Where is the improvement coming from? Keep in mind that they were already #11 in the running game last year.

Mitch takes a big step forward, David Montgomery becomes Kareem Hunt without the abusing women part, Anthony Miller stays healthy, and Burton makes some natural progression in the 2nd year of the offense.

All of this is unlikely, but that's how you get from there to here.

Bears had the 9th ranked scoring offense last year. Do the Internet better.

I'm talking about yardage.

I wasn't aware a game is scored by yardage instead of points? When did this change?

Not really. If Kizer doesn't gift you that TD it's not even particularly close.

The Bears--not the Bears offense--ranked 9th in total points.

Point total is an unreliable measure for determining offensive efficacy.

Wrong again. Nothing is more unreliable and worthless as total yards. What you do in the redzone is what matters and the Bears were very good(11th overall)

I also expect the Bears running game to get even better as they offloaded an inefficient running back who averaged a paltry 3.7 YPC.

You're both wrong. You use DVOA for predictive value. Bears offense was 20th last year. Solid work

Point total is less reliable since it is a team statistic, not one that isolates offensive efficacy.

But I agree that yardage is also obviously unsatisfactory.

I only introduced it into the discussion because I wrongly assumed you wouldn't be so illogical as to refer to TEAM points in discussing OFFENSIVE performance. My bad.

The Bears solid performance in the Red Zone indicates the points scored wasn't ONLY a result of a great defense.

Mitch is likely to take a step forward. It is going to be a RB by committee and I expect all three to average over 4.5 YPC. If Anthony Miller goes down, we now have at least two more great WR to step up. Burton scares me but Adam Shaheen is going to be the new Gronk.

Bears will be right behind the Saints and KC in offensive numbers and #1 overall D - again. Lions & Packers.. that's 4 wins right there. They only need 10 wins to win that division regardless of the tough schedule.

You went a little too hard with the bit that time. Could have kept it going a little longer.

Yeah, I'm hoping Shaheen gets cut. He sucks. We shouldn't have a hard time finding a better TE in camp. If he was a 5th round pick he'd have been launched already.

The answer to the question is no. How can the Bears offense be better when they can't even make a field goal from 42 yards?

Year two for new head coaches/coordinators is always tougher than year one, because NFL defenses catch up with you after that first year. You add that the Bears schedule is tougher this year and the result is probably a .500 team.

If you really want to be realistic, the Bears offense will probably be worst in the NFC North. The other three teams have better QBs.

I have my fingers crossed that field goal kicking doesn't cost them this season like it did last season.

IT will be a pretty tough season because of the schedule. I predict 11-5 over-all. I think that the offense will be appreciably better this year mainly because of the running back that they drafted taking Howard's place along with the progression of (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and his confidence with his receivers. Injuries are the only thing that will prevent them from getting into the play-offs. OTher than the field goal kicker, anyway. That still worries me.
