Both halves of their goalie platoon are UFA and Scott Darling is headed for a buyout. They need to make sure there's a name on the depth chart. But I wouldn't rule out the salary shedding; hockey in Raleigh doesn't make any money.

The Hurricanes desperately needed a backup goalie with Mrazek finishing up a one year prove it deal, and Darling having imploded in Charlotte and probably being bought out.

Plus the Hurricanes needed to shed some salary. They have some guys due for some increases and are going to have to replace some other UFA/RFA.

Yeah, the Bulls reserve Saturday nights and the Hawks reserve Sundays and usually Fridays. Think it's been like that since the Stadium. Same thing happens to the Rangers, where they only get, like, Mondays and Wednesdays. Conversely, there are maybe two Saturdays where the Maple Leafs aren't at home and on the CBC.

I've been critical of Stan, but I can't complain about the string of moves he has made starting with the Strome trade.
