There are a lot of good players on the USWNT. Rapinoe is their best at free kicks, which is why she plays. Players like Press and others on the bench are better in the other facets of the game, but usually they can hide Rapinoe out there with all of the other talent on the team during the course of regular play.

Not that Rapinoe is bad, but she only plays because she is the best at set pieces. Christ, Carli Lloyd doesn't play and she is not that far removed from being the best player in the world.

I know. I mean, if you want to grow this sport, ya know? If you want it to take off, you gotta take it off.

The ESPN article on her not playing basically said that. However, her not warming up at all was odd. You still warm up, even if you are not starting.
