I'll admit I'm late to the party at this point, but I'm more than happy to join in the fun being had by the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team as it vies for another World Cup. I had been following along with the outcomes and the headlines both on the pitch and off, enjoying things vicariously through friends and colleagues whom I follow on Twitter, people with far more knowledge of the game and emotional investment in the program.

The joy with which they actually play has an infectious quality about it, as does their utter lack of concern for the picayune thoughts of those critical of seemingly every behavior they may exhibit. Very good point. Today it just isn't seen as "cool". I remember the great Walter Peyton flipping the ball to the ref all of the time when he scored a touchdown and he just might have been the greatest player ever in the game.

Personally I hate the celebrations if they insult the other team. That is why I love to watch hockey probably most of any sport because in the overwhelming percentage of the cases, they do respect the other players.

We lose a lot of rights when we look the other way when it doesn't affect our lives or it isn't a cause we agree with.

The US Women's Hockey team is great and they just won Gold at the Olympics. I don't remember any of this shit happening with them. They were awesome to watch and they won a much more competitive tournament.
