Great football name. Ranks up there with Nagurski, Ditka and Butkus.

Should've been a Bear, my friend.

Not sure if you are referencing this or not. But he was selected with a bears draft pick. Salute to the Gaines Adams era.

He can barely string a sentence together, which means he'd be a slight improvement over Witten.

And with his retirement it also keeps the b.s. HOF votes for Witten down where they belong.

Gronk is the GOAT of tightends. No one has ever combined dominant pass catching with blocking as well as Gronkowski. Gonzalez had longevity but Gronkowski was the more dominant player and should be remembered as the greatest ever at his position.

Gonzalez had more than longevity, he played every game all season long. Gronk was chronically injured and he played in a much less physical era than Gonzalez.

Doesn’t matter. Gongalez wasn’t half the player Gronk was. Fuck outta here with that longevity argument. Nobody in our lifetime is in the same class as Gronk.

16 playoff game appearances defines longevity, no?

Definitely sufficiently, imo.

The _____ is/was better than Gronk takes I've seen are bizarre to me after he retired. There's nobody in the history of the NFL who's been close to as good as him at the TE position.

I rented Gronk a car the other week at Sky Harbor. Very chill dude. Cute assistant with him too.

Bizarre is saying any TE is twice the player Gonzalez was.

Just looking up some profiles and here are some interesting tidbits:

-Winslow also retired at 30. For some reason I thought he was a guy who played 20 years in the NFL.
-Ditka only played six years with the Bears. He played another six with the Eagles and Cowboys. He has really played up that Bear affiliation for a six year career.
-Ditka's rookie year he had 1,076 on 19.2 YPC and 12 TD! I imagine those have to be Ruthian compared to the average TE of that year.

Winslow

9 years 541 rec 6,741 yds 12.7 ypc 45 td

Gronk

9 years 521 rec 7,861 yds 15.1 ypc 79 td

Blows Winslow away, which I found strange. I know Winslow is not in the current era but I thought he was a good comp because Air Coryell was a state of the art passing offense for its time. The offense was not designed with the TE to be as primary as it is currently but I still stand think the comp works.

I would have liked to see Winslow's targets but I don't think they kept the stat. Gronk had 794 in 115 games. At 7 targets per game they were definitely feeding him the ball.

Hyperbole. But there’s nothing to discuss if the question is who was better.

FF spitting verbal diarrhea all over the place, Gronk averaged what? 11 games a year? ..he'd average 6 if he played 10 years earlier.

You’ve never seen a better TE in your life and you know this.

Just answer me this.

Who's the GOAT QB?
Who's the GOAT Coach?

Now stick Tony Gonzalez on that squad who plays every game.

I always thought Jay Novacek didn't get enough respect for how damn good he was.

Probably because Irvin was running the beautiful Gronk seam routes more than him.

I'm not kidding I thought that guy was fantastic in the first half of the 90s.

I still remember drunks chanting that next to me as a kid at the games. Everyone laughed. I didn't know what it meant so I laughed along as well.

If the Colts had known what to do with Chester, you would have 3 HOF TEs right there.
