Among AL 1st Basmen, Abreu is 2nd in HRs, 1st in RBI, 5th in average and OPS.

Among NL 1st basemen, Rizzo is 5th in HRs, 6th in RBI, 7th in average, and 6th in OPS.

Abreu is clearly the FAR SUPERIOR hitter and run producer so far this season.

Yep. Quietly does his job. Just doesn’t have the other half of the city rooting for him because he’s cute.

Pretty much the worst hitter in baseball since the ASB.

OPS free falling once again.

 Three games since the break. And his OPS is still over 800

Sample sizes matter until they don't.

As in a trade? They were talking about him last year mid-season (if I remember correctly) and then possibly as a free agent signing, but a trade for an arm would be interesting.

Don't think that the Yankees have anyone in their system that would be fair to trade Abreu for. I don't see the Yankees in the Sox trade future. Maybe the Mets but they would want young talent in return. Also, this would have to be a sign and trade deal, right for most clubs which would assure that Abreu would stay beyond this season for 3 years at least, I'd say.

The Sox, methinks are going to eventually have to decide when they expect to contend and have to sign some front line pitchers. I doubt that they do it this year or the next off season. My guess is that they will try to make a smaller deal(s) for a couple of good pitching prospects and hope they strike gold but My guess is that it will be the 2020 off season where they spend some serious money if they ever do.

I know this. They do not have the pitching talent in their entire system to be contenders. I think that Giolitto is the only thing close to a sure thing that they have. Lopez and Cease are maybes. THe rest of the bunch are coming off major surgery or haven't shown shit to be starters in the majors. They have a LONG WAY to go to be a decent contender.

Trade for him?
No man they'll just buy him if they want him next season.

The Yanks got Encarnacion, they aren't interested in Abreu.

If Anderson ever comes back then Abreu goes on a hitting spree.

It'll be huge. huge.

I see no one helped me out with this.

Decidedly under at .795 at time of reporting. This is now the third time he has fallen under .800 after someone has pointed out that he is back over .800 and that under .800 was just some aberration or blip.

Can you explain to me why OPS is so important to you as it pertains to this particular hitter? Abreu hasn't never walked at an acceptable rate.

He was the funnier of the two, though. The other looked like the stoned guy from the Banana Splits.

It is the single best stat to judge the offensive prowess of position players. It does not factor in how good or how poor your teammates are. It is simply how well you do against the opposing pitchers you're tasked with getting on base against. It works best when paired with some other statistics so you can gain more of a full picture...but when you sort the entire MLB by OPS top to bottom...it makes sense. You never question it. You browse the list and nod your head and say "yes, these hitters go from best to worst."

Do you think Baez is worth more than his .879 OPS, less, or is exactly worth the 40th place he is at?

Offensively, exactly where he is. He is in MVP hunts for more reasons than his bat.
