“Hereditary” director Ari Aster’s new film coming this summer.

1st trailer.

This looks creepy, and good.

I’m trying to stay away from spoilers since MANY have read the script online, but the one common observation is this movie is a step up in violence from Hereditary

Excited for this one. Good reviews, Aster is proving to be a great new director along with Peele. Excited what these guys put together the next few years.

Not everyone can get off on a guy being drugged and tricked into banging a small village virgin during an ancient pagan fertility ritual while her mother holds her hand, her grandma pushes his ass to go deeper and a purposely inbred, mentally handicapped oracle watches in a corner...but I can.

At the end of the day, I liked this movie and give it my recommendation but there is plenty to not like about it: First of all t-t-today junior! It did not need a 2:30 run time. It really wasn't a difficult story to tell and the ending didn't require any build up a two hour or less film couldn't have handled. I have heard Aster would like to put a 3 hour version to video. Hey, guy, we all have a pretty good idea what is happening when you tell us the name of the movie is midsommar and it is in the horror genre. I spend less than three hours getting drunk at Lincoln square's midsommar festival. Unless you are going to add a 30 minute TED lesson on interpreting Runes we get it and if we didn't, all the artwork explains the gaps.

for us observers of pagan European festivals, midsommar isn't the same as the spring fertility season. midsommar is more about the recognition that days start to get shorter from here on out and harvest season is on its way. Big picture, the point of the film for me seems to be rebirth so the mixed metaphor ends up being a glaring mistake. It would have worked much better with a Carnival followed by fertility festival. Christian would have been an interesting character to explore with that theme as well. I guess it works better if you see the story as being about banishing your demons.

I like the setup that phd level anthropology students are traveling with their friend back to witness an ancient rite. They sure seemed ignorant of well documented, similar rites around the world. Then, when one displays his advanced knowledge, he just sits back, smiling like they are going on a roller coaster rather than maybe warning his friends it might be shocking.

I read and hear that Christian is considered a cad in this movie. He stuck with Dani through thick and thin, even when it is clear she is a clingy, psycho. He's the bad guy?

I think people are just looking for an antagonist. I don't think there is one in this movie. Nothing happens because of evil of malice. It just happens and while it may be disturbing, it is perfectly logical within the belief system.

I like this Florence Pugh as an actress. I thought she was outstanding in the quirky Fighting with my Family and saw a little of Lady Macbeth. She jumps off the screen and it isn't because she is a beauty. She is built like a hobbit and has the deep voice of woman who may be tucking some extra parts. This young woman can act and I look forward to her future career.

I don't think that is true at all. I don't consider either very violent.

Ari Aster loves his not hot nudity in films and really has long, pondering shots on male genitals.

This movie was... Something.

Definitely not jump out of your seat horror, but more of a really unsettling movie experience.

I felt the need to start drinking immediately after watching this thing at 2pm today.

Just to wash away the weirdness.

I won’t be recommending this film to anyone for fear of how they will react.

Def looking forward to Aster’s future work tho.

100% this.

She stood out.
