We’re talking BB here? That’s wild to me. It’s basically a kick ass comic on tv like jorr said. I can get why people don’t like BCS and shows like rectify but FFing past BB parts seems crazy to me if you like the show itself.

I think on rewatches I am just ready to move on with the rest of the story lines. Like I said I thought on first watch it was great. I dont think the episode sucks....just not one I want to watch over and over.

I thought you meant BB in general, not the Fly episode. I disagree but that makes more sense. Ironically I feel kinda the opposite. I had little patience for it on my initial viewing but on rewatching the series it’s actually one of my favorite episodes because I already know the plot and like I said, I think it’s probably the most single funny episode in the series. When Jessie hits Walt with the makeshift swatter and says “yeah bitch, hurts, doesn’t it?” I can’t stop laughing even tho I’ve seen it 3 times at least now. Just great entertainment.

Aside from Oxymandias...or however you spell it...probably my favorite episode is the one where the junkie couple steals the ATM after stealing some of Jessies dope.

My thoughts have drifted a few different ways but never on Ozymandias. It’s the best hour of TV that’s ever aired and I don’t think there’s a close 2nd.

But Spooge and Swank don’t do much for me.

That couple doesn't do much...but I love watching the different levels of Jessie there. Watching him interact with the kid...then trying to be a big bad drug dealer...then getting all the money while trying to protect the kid in the end.

Jessie is awesome the entire time but his peak is season 4 imo. Like I said in the OP, it’s insane he hasn’t gotten more prestige work since the show ended. Everyone talks up Cranston but Paul matches him bit for bit and surpasses him in many scenes.

Jessie was a fucking train wreck, Walt did alot for that junkie dipshit. He also snitched. Walt didnt need him after he met Gus. Gus moved the product with no headaches.

Walt was a monster, but he had at least a small soft spot in his heart for Jesse. Maybe he figured if he let Jesse live, than part of Walt's own drug legacy would still survive. After all in just a couple scenes before the big climax, he admitted that he did the whole drug thing because he liked it and was good at it. It gave him power in his life for the first time in a long time, or maybe the first time ever. Perhaps letting Jesse go was as selfish as last act as could be.

I don't think it was a conscious decision really. There was no way Walt was ever gonna kill Jesse. The entire reason he tackled Jesse was to save him. It would've made no fucking sense to shoot him afterwards

That was never my take. Walt manipulated Jessie like he manipulated everyone else with whom he came in contact. Occasionally the guilt that Walt felt over his dastardliness manifested itself as what may have appeared to be concern or affection for others.

I think the last set of scenes proves Walt had a soft spot for Jesse. He could have executed everyone and left Jesse for dead, or also killed Jesse in the process. At the very least he felt bad for being responsible for Jesse's condition.

Walt was a husband and a father. He was a manipulative beast, but I don't believe he was completely heartless. Maybe 99% that way, but not totally.

Maybe that is me being naive, but thats how I feel about it.

Also at various points in the show Walt risked a lot for Jesse, and it wasn't always clear that in doing so Walt was out for self preservation like he was when he forced Gus to fire the cook and replace him with Jesse. To jorrs point he manipulated Jesse but at times he acted out of genuine concern for Jesse that wasn't attached to Walt's self-preservation.

Walt treated Jesse like a spouse he was abusing. He cared greatly for him but controlled him by any means necessary.

Now that I think about it, in the #metoo world we now live in I'm not sure Breaking Bad should be celebrated given that problematic theme.
