I missed most of the interview. I just heard him talk about flying in and flying out immediately.

Doesn't this happen every year during every training camp? Early on there is somebody hurt or not performing well who gets dogged, and on the flip side there is some undrafted rookie who becomes a media darling that everybody falls in love with. Rarely do these instances correlate to negative or positive on field performance once the ball is kicked into the air for real in September.

It's been August for like 36 hours. They barely hit in practice. Its way way way too early to make any sort of judgement on this team, good or bad. MANY thought it was crazy when Nagy didn't play any of his starters in the 3rd preseason game. That seemed to work out well.

Mitch needs to improve quite a bit this year, but if he is struggling a bit on AUGUST 1st or 2nd against one of, if not the, BEST defense in the NFL, I am not going to lose one second of sleep over it.

Of course the defense should be ahead of the offense at this point in training camp.

But (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky's accuracy on intermediate and deep routes was a concern last year. And it appears to be an issue thus far in training camp as well.

It will be interesting to track his progress as the season evolves. He needs to make significant strides in this area to be worth a significant contract extension.

Montgomery being a shitty blocker is concerning. Davis will probably be injured at some point and if Montgomery is as good as many people say he is, it would be nice to have him as a 3rd down option.

It sounds like (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and Robinson have a great connection. While I would love to have an elite receiving target it sounds like the Bears will have a lot of really good options at receiver.

I do worry after Robinson revealed he had a broken rib in the playoffs last year. He seems very injury prone.

He does. I liked that he gutted it out and played well though. He's really a #2 though. It would be nice to see one of the young guys develop into a true #1. Wims appears to be on the fasttrack.

That doesn't change anything because Robinson is like 25 or 26

Wims is an exciting player. Just looks the part of a big time receiver, and he has shown flashes whenever he's been given snaps. Did Emanuel Hall look like he has a chance to make the team? He is likely the fastest receiver in camp.

Matt Miller says scouts, players and coaches have picked (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky to have a breakout season. They picked Mahomes last year. The article is in Bleacher Report.

Rich Campbell says Leno did really well against Mack in 1 on 1 drills. Mack destroying the tackles daily has to help prepare them.

It’s nice for fanfare and all but.. it doesn’t mean anything.

It’s simple, if Mitch is going to improve he’s going to have to improve his decision making after the snap (something that should get better with experience and familiarity with both the offensive scheme and the players running it with him), and he’ll have to improve his downfield accuracy.. with this 2nd point I’d say it’s less clear cut. To me, part of downfield accuracy is just having it or not. Some of it can be written off as panic throws and needing more time in the offense but generally downfield accuracy has as much to do with timing and ‘touch’ as anything. And you pretty much see right away whether or not a guy has ‘touch’.

Keep an eye out on how much Mitch takes off and runs too. That will also be a good indicator on just how different he’ll be from last year to this year. If he’s made real progress, he’ll still scramble around a lot but the difference will be that he’s keeping his eyes downfield and making crazy throws by buying the WR enough time to lose the defender. If he’s just opting to straight up bail on a play and run to grab yards and make plays with his feet.. imo that will not be a good sign.

We’ll have to wait for the early regular season games to see this stuff tho. For one, he shouldn’t be taking off at all in the pre-season, and two.. they better not have him running designed QB run plays during the pre-season either.

Anyway, these articles are nice but they’re just fluff pieces because they have to write about something. We’ll see. I’m pretty confident Mitch will be better this year than last, and as I’ve said in the past.. if this defense is great again this year, Mitch only has to be good (not great) for this team to contend for a ring. And I think he’s going to be good.

Agreed on Wims. Grote was saying today that he looks good and no reason he shouldn't make the team. He said Hall missed practices with injuries and it's not looking real good for him.

This is a good analysis of (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky's enigmatic play thus far in his career. According to Brett Kollmann, (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky's inconsistency arises from two factors: poor mechanics (lack of hip rotation to generate power on intermediate and deep routes) and bad reads. Interestingly, Kollmann also notes that (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky performs significantly better under pressure than he does during less stressful game situations.

You should find his analysis somewhat reassuring.

First, hip rotation is a relatively easy mechanical problem to address. Second, (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky's improved numbers when operating under pressure suggest that his bad reads are a product of overthinking, not an inability to make the correct reads. Hopefully he will grow out of his inconsistency as he becomes more instinctive within the offense.

I liked how he broke down the plays. I thought it was more about (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky not being able to read a defense but it clearly looks like his struggles are about overthinking and some mechanical issues.

He was a good blocker in college. He'll get up to speed. RB blocking isn't all that difficult. It's just read the play and accept that there is going to be an impact. He is supposedly very diligent in his study and obviously has no problem with contact.

Burton’s time on the sideline should give the rest of the tight ends — predominantly Shaheen and Ben Braunecker — valuable reps to show that the Bears will be fine at a position that is important to Nagy’s offense.

Monday, though, both of those tight ends had issues with drops.

“I just think we need to continue train tracking the ball all the way in,” Gilbride said. “And that’s across the board with the tight ends. It showed up today with Braunecker, but it showed up with some other guys as well. We’re getting better at it, but it takes a while to dial in and see the football into your hands. But we’re getting better.”

Braunecker did a nice job of positioning himself in front of Kyle Fuller on one of his routes in team drills, but couldn’t hang on to a Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky pass. Shaheen couldn’t corral a throw down the sideline from Chase Daniel. Braunecker, re-signed for his fourth season in Chicago, has had a few notable drops in camp, and Shaheen hasn’t made the same impact we saw at this time last summer or in the spring.

Sounds like Shaheen is still a bust

Buddy of mine is down there today and he said "I know it's just practice but Shaheen is not very impressive."
