Coming from someone who can't put a sentence together half the time and fails to get their facts straight most of the time, your criticism means nothing. Now go get your shine box Darkie. Then dust it off, turn that som-bitch sideways and shove it straight up your monkey ass!!

Do you have any examples to back that up?

If anyone wants to research them, they are right there for them. I made a couple of comments concerning your inability to articulate a thought and construct a sentence, just earlier today. Anyone can go to my posts and go back to read through those concerning Darkie, earlier today. You just go to the persons profile and then click on the review all posts. Do you have Alzheimers?? Or are you just in denial?

Steve, all you had to say was "no". That would have been more than sufficient. You could have just said "No, Darkside, I am talking out of my ass again. I rarely have any idea what I am talking about, and today is no exception."

Since I never offered such a dumb bet up, it would not qualify as putting my money where my mouth is. It would be putting my money on something concocted by someone else. As stated, I bet when the bet makes mathematical sense. A 5-1 record amonts to a .833 win percentage. That would be a ridiculous bet. Nice try. But as I said before, I don't get goaded into dumb bets.

You don't understand. It's different to expect 5-1 and be willing to bet 5-1. I expect the Cubs to make the World Series, but I would not make a 1-1 bet that they do. I could go to a website and get better odds. It wouldn't make sense for me to do so. When you say that the Cubs END THE WAIT IN 2008! you are saying that you think the Cubs will win the world series. I highly doubt you are willing to make an even money bet that they will. You could currently get 9-2 odds on that world series championship.

You have made it clear that you expect the Cubs to win the world series this year. The Cubs end the wait in 2008! Are you therefore willing to bet someone $10, $20, $50, or $100 dollars that the Cubs do? You offered a bet up to Frank because he said that he thought there was no excuse for them not going 5-1.

So I'll ask it this way. Are you willing to put an offer out there for a $100 bet on whether the Cubs win the World Series this year? You did the same thing to Frank in the second post in this thread as I am doing now. It doesn't mean that you are some genius because you offered Frank a very lopsided bet just like anyone who took you up on your bet wouldn't be a genius for taking every other team in baseball over the Cubs.

Put your money where your mouth is. Offer up a bet of any amount from $10-$100(as not everyone is as well off as you are) on the Cubs winning the world series. The loser gives the winner the bet amount.

That is no different than what you offered Frank.

BR, you are expecting Elmhurst Steve to exhibit rational thought and have a basic understanding of mathematics. This is a mistake.

I want him to accept a bet under the same circumstances he offered Frank and therefore really be willing to put his money where his mouth is. He seems very proud of the fact that he was able to "put" Frank in his place by being willing to make a lopsided bet. I want him to offer up the same for one of his grand predictions.

Rick-it was Frank, who claimed there was "No Excuse" for the Sox not to go 5-1 on the home stand. That represents a mathematical improbability. So I offered him a bet. Goaded him into a bet, he only initially agreed to on emotion. He didn't want to back down from his prediction, so he took on a dumb bet. I am not going to be so stupid. You want to make any bets, make me an offer that YOU wish to wager on.I will let you know if it's one I am willing to wager on. People should speak on their own behalf. I put up money where my own mouth is, where the bet makes mathematical sense to me. I don't put my money on something concocted by someone else, that I might consider a sucker bet.

Ok.

There is no excuse for the Cubs to not go 5-1 against the White Sox these next 2 weekends. There's my belief. There's speaking on my own behalf. If the Cubs are going to end the wait this year, which you claim in every other fucking meatball post of yours, you should have no problem accepting this bet. And it doesn't even need to be $100. We do not need a radio personality invovled. We will bet on a 12 pack of beer of the winner's choosing. If beer isn't your thing, a pint of liquor <$20 of the winner's choosing. Fuck, I lose I'll buy Zima or whatever pussy shit it is that you drink. Cubs go 5-1, you win. Sox win 0, 2, 3, 4, or 6 games, I win. Simple as that. Put your goddam money where your utterly stupid fucking mouth is. Grow a set, however small they may be, and say "you're on!" Otherwise, YOU are the idiot. You reject this and it does not matter what YOU think. If you are so confident in the Cubs, and God knows we all know about it because you post about them here in the White Sox forum dozens of times a day, you will put up or you will shut the fuck up. For once in your life, be a fucking man you goddam waste of life.

I don't make stupid bets. 5-1 equates to a .833 winning percentage. Which is in excess of the Cubs current Baseball best winning percentage of .643 That would be a stupid bet. Having conviction is not the same as having blind faith. The mathematics dont work. Besides, you have already welched on one bet, so you have zero credibility anyway. Why would I bother betting with someone who doesnt pay off after he loses his bets?

Yeah right, Darkie, like I'm gonna get goaded into a stupid bet, where my team that has established a .643 winning percentage, would have to win at a .833 clip, because some shine box toting asshole called me a name. :P

FavreFag-I have a basic understanding of math and am rational enough not to make bets that don't make any sense when the mathematics are examined. There is no hypocrisy. Just because Frank was dumb enough to be goaded into a sucker bet, doesnt mean I'm going to be. Besides, as stated, Frank has already welched on that bet, so he has no credibliity at this point.

Did you even notice that you have 2 quotes by people other than me there? If you want to try to find something hypocritical, look for something I said in a post that is not consistant. Thats the way it works..

We were just discussing at lunch today how much we enjoyed your addition to the board. You are universally recognized as the most informative, well-respected poster here. And you are famous because you have been on MJH a couple times and they know your monikor. Kudos!

We used to take Ripple and mix it with Champagne. We called it Champipple.
Got the recipe from Fred G. Sanford, where the G stands for Gallo.

So Steve, are we to infer that you don't actually believe that the Cubs will win the world series...you know, since you're conveniently ignoring Rick's simple wager?

There's no math involved. It's a simple "yes or no" bet.

It is also a mathematical improbability that the Cubs win the World Series. The current odds that I see are 9-2 for the Cubs to win. You seem to be a math whiz, but I'll help you out anyways. It's 4.5-1. While I know it doesn't exactly correlate, I would say the odds between your bet offered and what I am proposing are pretty similar.

The basic point is that there is a big difference between expecting something to happen and being willing to bet on it. I can expect the Cubs to win the world series, but no way in hell am I putting up $100 to win $100. Frank may have expected a good homestand, but he's not going to bet an even amount.

Now if you had offered him 5-1 odds, it would be a different story. He could find a website that would probably have given him that(or the equivalent of betting the Sox to win every game).

So you are saying he was stupid to take the bet. Even if he later backed away from it. You will get no argument from me on that point.

Also, to bet on a World Series that is months away would be stupid. There are too many variables left to chance. At this time, with the players they have, I believe that the Cubs will win the World Series. However, if Ramirez or Lee were to get hurt and Kerry Wood were to be sidelined again, that would change the equation. Thats why I bet on things in the immediate future, not months away, where too many variables remain.

Again, I am not simple minded enough to be goaded into a dumb bet. And...since Frank has already been identified as a welcher, I wouldn't bother betting with him again anyway.

He may have been close to taking the bet, but I don't see him actually agreeing to it.

Wasn't the whole point of getting Mac involved that you would both call him and let him know? Frank never called Frank. I think you are living in an alternate universe.

I like the rare instances in which Rick and I are on the same page in argument. He can be every bit as argumentative as I am, and usually backs his premises up with facts and sound reasoning, so it just saves me the time and energy. This Bud's for you Rick, for dealing with Steve, when the majority of us have been exasperated.

You seem to take this that he was agreeing. First of all, he never called Mac. He also said that he'll bet the Sox and he has no issue putting money on them.

However, two hours later, and well before a game could have taken place, he is asking for what odds you will give him. He clearly thought there was no bet.

I see nothing that Frank said that he was taking the bet. Please show me where he says that he accepts the bet.

I'll bet the Sox. I have no issue in putting money on them. You wanted me to call in to MJH. Thats lame. Even when you don't call, they get enough meatball callers and I was not gonna bring the show down.

Now they need to go 4-1 in thier next 5. Thats very reasonable. What it not a reasonably expectation is printing World Series tickets for the Cub in June, like Steve is ready to do. How'd they do last nite, Steve? Huh? Against that "junior" league no less..

Once you say you take the bet, its on.He does that in the first sentence of that post. It does not matter if you say 2 hours later, before the game that you changed your mind, or now, hours later, want to get odds. It's too late. Whether he called Dan or not. Big boy rules.

It is nice. This feels like I joined a little league game now.

I'd probably have to quit the board if you agreed with Steve. :)
