You don't understand. It's different to expect 5-1 and be willing to bet 5-1. I expect the Cubs to make the World Series, but I would not make a 1-1 bet that they do. I could go to a website and get better odds. It wouldn't make sense for me to do so. When you say that the Cubs END THE WAIT IN 2008! you are saying that you think the Cubs will win the world series. I highly doubt you are willing to make an even money bet that they will. You could currently get 9-2 odds on that world series championship.

You have made it clear that you expect the Cubs to win the world series this year. The Cubs end the wait in 2008! Are you therefore willing to bet someone $10, $20, $50, or $100 dollars that the Cubs do? You offered a bet up to Frank because he said that he thought there was no excuse for them not going 5-1.

So I'll ask it this way. Are you willing to put an offer out there for a $100 bet on whether the Cubs win the World Series this year? You did the same thing to Frank in the second post in this thread as I am doing now. It doesn't mean that you are some genius because you offered Frank a very lopsided bet just like anyone who took you up on your bet wouldn't be a genius for taking every other team in baseball over the Cubs.

Put your money where your mouth is. Offer up a bet of any amount from $10-$100(as not everyone is as well off as you are) on the Cubs winning the world series. The loser gives the winner the bet amount.

That is no different than what you offered Frank.

I want him to accept a bet under the same circumstances he offered Frank and therefore really be willing to put his money where his mouth is. He seems very proud of the fact that he was able to "put" Frank in his place by being willing to make a lopsided bet. I want him to offer up the same for one of his grand predictions.

Rick-it was Frank, who claimed there was "No Excuse" for the Sox not to go 5-1 on the home stand. That represents a mathematical improbability. So I offered him a bet. Goaded him into a bet, he only initially agreed to on emotion. He didn't want to back down from his prediction, so he took on a dumb bet. I am not going to be so stupid. You want to make any bets, make me an offer that YOU wish to wager on.I will let you know if it's one I am willing to wager on. People should speak on their own behalf. I put up money where my own mouth is, where the bet makes mathematical sense to me. I don't put my money on something concocted by someone else, that I might consider a sucker bet.

I don't make stupid bets. 5-1 equates to a .833 winning percentage. Which is in excess of the Cubs current Baseball best winning percentage of .643 That would be a stupid bet. Having conviction is not the same as having blind faith. The mathematics dont work. Besides, you have already welched on one bet, so you have zero credibility anyway. Why would I bother betting with someone who doesnt pay off after he loses his bets?

FavreFag-I have a basic understanding of math and am rational enough not to make bets that don't make any sense when the mathematics are examined. There is no hypocrisy. Just because Frank was dumb enough to be goaded into a sucker bet, doesnt mean I'm going to be. Besides, as stated, Frank has already welched on that bet, so he has no credibliity at this point.

Did you even notice that you have 2 quotes by people other than me there? If you want to try to find something hypocritical, look for something I said in a post that is not consistant. Thats the way it works..

It's 4.5-1. While I know it doesn't exactly correlate, I would say the odds between your bet offered and what I am proposing are pretty similar.

The basic point is that there is a big difference between expecting something to happen and being willing to bet on it. I can expect the Cubs to win the world series, but no way in hell am I putting up $100 to win $100. Frank may have expected a good homestand, but he's not going to bet an even amount.

Now if you had offered him 5-1 odds, it would be a different story. He could find a website that would probably have given him that(or the equivalent of betting the Sox to win every game).

So you are saying he was stupid to take the bet. Even if he later backed away from it. You will get no argument from me on that point.

Also, to bet on a World Series that is months away would be stupid. There are too many variables left to chance. At this time, with the players they have, I believe that the Cubs will win the World Series. However, if Ramirez or Lee were to get hurt and Kerry Wood were to be sidelined again, that would change the equation. Thats why I bet on things in the immediate future, not months away, where too many variables remain.

Again, I am not simple minded enough to be goaded into a dumb bet. And...since Frank has already been identified as a welcher, I wouldn't bother betting with him again anyway.

You seem to take this that he was agreeing. First of all, he never called Mac. He also said that he'll bet the Sox and he has no issue putting money on them.

However, two hours later, and well before a game could have taken place, he is asking for what odds you will give him. He clearly thought there was no bet.

I see nothing that Frank said that he was taking the bet. Please show me where he says that he accepts the bet.
