I worked with an Italian guy (I am half Italian) whose last name was one letter away from being pronounced, “I am a dego”. So of course everyone called him Imadego. He almost threw me down the stairs one time. Apparently he hated it.

I always assumed Italians like being compared to mob characters and embraced the terms like wop and gumba.

The effort to turn "Fredo" into a racial/ethnic slur is absurd. It's obviously a slur reserved for idiot brothers. If he wants to be offended about that, have at it. Just stop pretending that the Italian element is anything more than incidental.

It’s silly. We’re all way too sensitive and easily offended. Some groups have a right to be quite a bit upset at certain terms. But I laugh when Italian American groups get offended by shows like the Sopranos.

I finished reading that book about the Black Hand. What Italians did to other Italians at the end of the 19th Century is unforgivable. They earned their reputations.

as a one eightish italian. fredo has never been a slur of some sort. That said, I have no problem with the way cuomo handled this troll.

It's more than incidental to use it on the Cuomos, but it's definitely about being the failure of the family.

Yeah his first response to the guy was in reference to the term signifying weakness. I don't think the guy meant it as an ethnic slur but if he used it to insinuate that Cuomo was a weak man then thats still a problem.
