SCOOP: JESSE WHITE says he won’t seek a seventh term as Illinois Secretary of State when he's up for re-election in 2022. “This is my last tour of duty,” the 85-year-old told Playbook at the Illinois State Fair.

Asked whether he might step down before his term is up, he said “No way. I’m seeing it all the way through.”

This isn’t the first time White has said he’d retire. Back in 2015, in an eerily similar interview at the State Fair, White told a Sun-Times reporter that he didn’t plan on seeking a sixth term. “This is my last tour of duty,” he said at the time. Two years later, he changed his mind and in 2018, he won re-election handily.

Back then, White was working with a Republican governor and may have wanted to run just to be assured his seat stayed in Democratic hands. With J.B. Pritzker now in the governor’s office, even if he were to decide not to finish out his term, White could leave knowing a Democrat would be named to fill his seat.

Once I discovered the Wheaton one after the wife told me about it, I only go to Naperville for the stuff they don't cover there. If you EVER wanna see government officials be completely incompetent, visit the Naperville DMV or any local Post Office.

Every dmv statewide is light years better than it was under Ryan, and still better than the Edgar years.
True terror was being in any state dmv during Ryan's tenure tho. What a shit show back then.
Anyone who hates whites dmv is too damn young to remember how bad it really was.

I spend a lot of time on the phone with various government agencies. The Secretary of State's office is easily the most competent and professional agency with whom I speak. The man is 85, I don't know how much he has to do with it, but I hope his successor doesn't screw it up.

Hopefully they fill the State's Attorney's office with somebody else as well.

Made the Libertyville DMV the envy of the USA.
Then, couldn't pay the rent and was forced to move. Not his fault the Dems spent all the $$$ in the first 4 months of the year.

Great guy.

Schaumburg really is outstanding. Two visits this year, both for vehicle registration renewals. I think both times I was in and out in under a minute.

Gordon Jump did a decent job in that role, but there was no comparison to the original.

Whatever happened to those two weirdoes in that one coffee commercial? It was like a soap opera. Last I remember, the guy learned that the chick had an adult son. It was supposed to be some big surprise. Anyway, there must have been scenes after it.

I always wanted to make a successful Come Back Here! (from Snippets) with a can of coffee, but never really pulled it off.

I suspect that Jesse doesn't want them to pass out or have a grabber in line. Bad publicity and inevitably they'll sue the state.

Old people also have nothing else to do but call Channel 7 and complain. You're probably too busy for that shit.

The emissions test places are selling stickers, but they charge an additional fee on top of the credit card fee. The last few times I've been to the DMV it's been relatively painless for titles and stickers. Driving tests, written tests and license vision tests is where people wait long hours.

The only thing that bothers me now is the massive fee hike on titles and renewal. Starting in January it will be $300 to get a title and stickers. It's currently $251 for new title and registration.

I just renewed my registration last month. I did the online thing...no time to go to the DMV, especially since they closed the Libertyville one.

I will happily pay the nominal 3-7 dollar charge to either renew online or at the emmissions testing place if it means I don't have to go to the SOS office.

Yeah...I liked going to that one...I never spent more than 10 minutes there...even when I had to take the written test when I renewed back in 2013. My last license renewal I went to Deerfield. That sucked.
