I think that makes it more of a beautiful thing over recent history of drafts in other leagues. When you get a Bote, a hick throwing fastballs against a barn in their late 20's or even a Piazza it is great.

I would have rather seen the GS live.

Of course Joe taking credit on ESPN 1000 today for Bode grand slam with his brilliant interpretation of data to use Bode.

He’s not exclusive to the score?

I keep saying it, but it's true: this is the shit the Cardinals would do to us. A top hitter gets injured, some unheralded prospect comes up out of AAA, and starts raking like he's the star. I like it.

He certainly hasn’t made anyone miss Kris Bryant. Barely notice he’s been gone what 2 months ?

 Another great theo contract? The Bote extension does not even register on the bad move list at all. He is going to be a utility man who is making very little money in the big picture.

Quote:
The Chicago Tribune’s Mark Gonzales reports that Bote will earn a $50,000 signing bonus and salaries over the next five years of $950,000, $1 million, $2.5 million, $4 million and $5.5 million.

Lot of money for a minor leaguer.

A couple weeks of consistent at bats and starts in the field may get him back on track. It's disappointing how he has regressed this season.

Bote's batting line is slighty below Heyward, with 150 less at bats. Bote is 4 for last 7 at bats. Last 15 games .333 ba. There has to be bitterness with the guys going to and from Iowa that Heyward has never been sent down when he's in one of many horrible stretches that in some cases were a whole season.

Heyward has more than 5 years service time, he can't be sent down.

Bote has pretty close to a league average OPS. He's caught in a roster crunch with Castellanos and Kemp on the roster, and the other night proved be can't be left as the backup SS. So he will go get AB at Iowa until September 1 and be back.

Bote's career ops and slugging are slightly higher than Heywards. Even if Heyward could be sent down, he wouldn't be. Bote's contract is chump change in today's MLB. Theo will never admit failure on his part signing Heyward.

Wasn't Bote a defensive specialist until this past rough week? Isn't he the guy who pushed all-star 3b Kris Bryant to the outfield with his stellar defense?

Bote is what Descalso should be, except that Descalso currently sucks. He can start at 2B/3B/LF 25-30 games each a year for rest/injuries/platooning, be the first guy in on a double switch, or be the primary PH in situations where power is more important than contact/OBP. On the Cubs, Bryant goes to LF/RF against some LH starters so Bote gets more starts at 3B.

Any team where David Bote is getting 450+ PA is not making a long post-season run, but at 250-350 PA he is a good utility piece.

Descalso sucked before he came here, Bote has some power. He's a nice utility guy.

From last season, when he was an excellent defender, in addition to having some huge hits. But his defense this year has been disappointing. I can see if the pitchers find and then exploit weaknesses and his batting average and power numbers regress. But his defense was something I figured could be counted on to be solid, if not exceptional.

Exactly. Was surprised to see Bote already has around 330 AB this year, without even having a regular position.

And Bryant should never be playing LF. He is a star and needs to be at one position all the time, not be treated as some utility guy that has to prove himself and play all over the place.

Bote back up for Holland going on the DL.

You recall his last AB against Washington at Wrigley was the 2 out bottom of the ninth game winning grandslam on a 3-2 count to turn a 3-0 defeat into a 4-3 victory.
