We should always pity FavreFan, irrespective of a football game coming up.

That was an unnecessary horrific scene in an otherwise good movie.

Disagree. It was necessary as it showed the flip of the switch for Upham. Even in the film's climactic battle scene- as hardened, veteran soldiers are fighting- that scene helped show how quickly and drastically that war can change men.

I think the ending of that scene actually shows the empathy between the soldiers. One is going to die in the fight. Neither wants to be there. They are forced into the situation. He is almost gentle in the way he treats the American as he dies

I think I've read that the scene symbolizes America knowing that the Germans were killing the Jews they did nothing to stop it.

Except liberate half of Europe, and arm the other armies.

Nope. no soldier would have done what he did the way he did it. And to show the cowardice of the American soldier in not helping his friend and pretty much his mentor was stupid and unnecessary.

It was a bullshit scene. That German soldier should have been killed by the typist. His buddy was up there calling for help, His job was to help him and to kill the enemy. He turned coward and his buddy died because of his cowardice.

I know this may be hard for you to believe, but there were likely 18 and 19 year old kids who were scared shitless in WW2 that froze in the heat of battle.

Sure there were and that was true in probably ever war ever fought. But this was a movie and this was a theoretical scene and didn't have to be done in this theoretical war depiction. It reminded me of the stupidest war movie ever made, Platoon, and the way the two sergeants were portrayed and that of the Vietnam War in general.

That is a stretch. Sounds like film school style analysis.

So.... was that Nazi steamboat willie or was it just a guy who looks like him?
