White Sox fans, it is official. Paul Konerko and his oblique injury have landed on the 15 day Disabled List, but the Sox have once again passed on calling up Outfielder Jerry Owens in favor of journeyman DeWayne Wise from Triple "A" Charlotte. While it likely means Nick Swisher covering the tabs at first base, it could open the door for extended playing time for Brian Anderson in center field. I do NOT want to see Alexei Ramirez in center again! Ramirez should be at second the rest of this season, with Pablo Ozuna occasionally spelling #10.

Good. Heel up. Heel that thumb too. We'll get by without the .220 average. He'll come back with no excuses. This means Brian Anderson gets to play for 2 straight weeks. I want to see how he does with consistent at bats. Swisher plays first.

I wonder if Thome will play 1st in the NL ball parks. Don't know if he can any more. Don't know if it's worth the risk. Maybe he plays 1st one game at Wrigley.

There is a chance, albeit slim, that Jim Thome could start at first for one of the six straight Interleague games in the National League ballparks, starting at Wrigley Friday vs. the Cubs and ending at Dodger Stadium June 26th in Los Angeles...

If he does play first I would tell him not to jump or stretch for bad throws. Just let them go by. He'll pull his back or tear a muscle in his leg. Just try to pick the short hops Jimmy. Anything else is an injury waiting to happen.

Thome just sat 2 games because of a stiff back. So I don't know if Ozzie wants to risk him being at 1st. We'll see.

The Cubs and their fans would LOVE to see Thome at 1st! Bring it!

I wonder what Elmhurst Steve thinks about Paulie's injury.

This just in...There may be a reason why Jerry Owens isn't here and DeWayne Wise is. ChicagoSports.com reports that Owens left the game in the 1st inning today for Triple "A" Charlotte with an "undisclosed injury", believed to be a...GROIN!!!

Maybe another reason Owens didn't get called up is cuz he can't hit in the minors. Maybe the reason is cuz he sucks.

Owens is batting .259 with a .327 OBP in 230 at bats for Charlotte. That sucks. It means he'll bat .220 with a .290 OBP in the majors.

If he can't hit in the minors he can't hit MLB pitching.

Maybe it's time to realize Owens will never be a Major Leaguer

You asked for it-you got it

Konerko is without question on the downside of his career. The Sox should have traded him to the Angels when they had the chance. However, he has come up with big homers, IN THE PAST, against the Cubs, so it's got to be frustrating for sox fans that he won't be able to play in the series at THE SHRINE- at least. Ozzie has already said that he will use Swisher at first and does not intend to use Thome there, as he prefers not to risk injury to him. Konerko was not hitting much and he is a double play machine-at bat. But, he does have power still. His defense has declined this year as well as his offense. In the last loss to Colorado he was charged with one error, but could have had 1-2 more. All in all, his loss is pretty much a wash.

Beardown-that means he should fit right in, in that lineup.

Jesse reported that Ozzie has no intention of putting Thome at first.

ESPN Radio 1000's Bruce Levine said the same thing, but he wasn't sure why Jerry Owens got passed over in favor of DeWayne Wise when the question was asked on "Mac, Jurko & Harry". I know why...Because Jerry hurt his groin in the 1st inning for Triple "A" Charlotte and had to leave their game.

I just saw a report that says the Mariners are going to realease Richie Sexson. I hope Kenny doesn't take a flier on him.

I thought I read that he crashed into the outfield wall?

He'll be on the Southside by August 1st.

Why? Isn't Carl Everett available?

You are correct about Owens running into the wall at "AAA" Charlotte yesterday. As for Richie Sexson and the rumor about him possibly getting released in Seattle, I have two words for you...ROB DEER! Think about it for a moment. He was a journeyman outfielder who either hit a homer or struck out in his Major League career...
