Irregardless of what this lady thinks, even if climate change is really being caused by humans, I see no way of going back. Anything you do now is a band-aid on a gaping wound.

To enact real change, you have to somehow monetize the fixes to climate change. Years ago there was talk of having Carbon Banks, where industries would be given government subsidies to store their emissions. Governments would look to pay farmers for keeping trees rather than razing the land for crop and livestock. While I doubt this will work, its this kind of out of the box thinking that could start to sway the tide of climate change. Greta isn't going to make any impact.

The ultimate irony here is of course that grown-ass white men for decades have been raising alarm bells that maybe something was wrong with the environment. Of course none of these people really listened until some spoiled brat girl started shouting nonsensically the same basic ideas (though she uses way more hyperbole) that these men were trying to calmy explain. Now were out of time and there is really nothing we can do to avert the consequences of this thing. Not that anyone has any real idea what those consequences actually are.

I mean, sure, I get that it's a bit strange that all of a sudden, all climate-change discussion revolves around this one little girl from Sweden, but the way she makes people get mad and completely show their asses is at least instructive in a know-the-enemy way, I guess.

There is a valid criticism of neoliberal austerity measures in which the rest of us are supposed to resign ourselves to living in disused shipping containers and eating pulverized worms while the wealthy go on living extravagantly, but I'd like to think all the big plans for addressing climate change aim higher than that.
