Interesting to read ESPN is forbidding hosts from discussing the NBA/China story. Apparently offending portions of the US population is OK, but China scares the crap out of SJW's on ESPN?

Yeah, but those portions of the US population are dumb so it's okay. They're also a low spending demographic.

How about the fact that China is menacing HK with it's military in pursuit of territorial ambitions. You're not allowed to just conquer foreign countries.

Come on, it’s not that simple. Hong Kong is part of modern China albeit with a strange arrangement (one country; two systems).

That being said, it is time for companies to stand up for free speech and dump China and its authoritarian methods.

An arrangement that was made between Chinese government and the crown. That's what this is really about, the people of HK do not want to be handed over in 28 years.

Jemelle Hill went on CNN and was pretty critical of the NBA.

funny seeing all the MAGA-hats in dumbfounded agreement with Jemelle in the replies. Maybe that'll lead them to reading more of her work and finding her equally agreeable on other topics:

Her full-length on the Morey-HK-China thing is a good summary of what JORR, LTG et al were discussing in the other thread:

Must be some pretty significant revenues coming out of China for them to have this much leverage. NBA guys stop being woke if they fear it may lead to them being broke, even Steve Kerr has a no comment on the China story, didn't think this type of suppression was possible today.

Stand up and someone else will gladly slide into the largest market in the world. Feelings < Business

the deal with 10 Cent was worth 1.5 billion over 5 years. So $50 million per team. $10 million per team per year, 50% to the players. So that's $5 mil off the salary cap each year for the length of the deal.

I've read other estimates that the total value of all NBA activity in China could be worth as much as $4 billion / $130 million a team over those 5 years. I don't know where those numbers come from. But $26 mil a year a team, half to the players, $13 mil of salary cap space lost.
