"pretty pathetic" has been my breakup anthem for a long time. it's like josh *knew* me. incidentally, i did know his brother.

I know what you mean. That album was on repeat for me my entire junior year of high school. And there's a sweet cover of Pure Imagination...

Whole album?

My Aim Is True is pretty much perfect front to back.

Degenerate Dave!

Didn’t know Reader was a Floyd fan.

If I had to pick one:

Mercy Falls (Seventh Wonder)

Oh yeah Reader is a pretty cool dude. I mean I'm sure I'll piss him off sooner rather than later but ya know.

Great band, but I still dug Born to Quit more. But their first 3 albums were all outstanding.

Grew up listening to them, the Who and the Ramones at school. Everything else at home.

And Soul Train every Saturday.

Too hard to narrow it down to one and I sure as fuck am not trying to impress the Pitchfork crowd.

GNR:Appetite for Destruction
Counting Crows: August and Everything After
Wilco: Summerteeth
Ryan Adams: Cold Roses

Honorable Mention: TV on the Radio Dear Science, Interpol Turn on the Bright Light, The Cure Disintegration, The Shins Chutes too Narrow

But if I had to pick 1 album it would be Summerteeth.

The answer to the question is "Dark Side Of the Moon".
Many of my other favorites already mentioned. (Puppets, Achtung Baby, Abbey Road).
Surprised, but love the fact that Gish and Breakfast in America mentioned. Sorry Doug, Siamese Dream is a great album, but Gish is on a whole other level of greatness.

I'll add one not mentioned:

Mindcrime definitely in my top 10. My only criticism is the sound mix. Wish it sounded more like Empire, but then again, maybe they were going for an edgier sound.

Chutes Too Narrow is a great choice. Love that album.

I would also rank some of the New Pornographers' stuff among my favorites--either Adventures in Solitude or Twin Cinema.

It’s just a perfect pop/alternative album. Such a clean, crisp sound.

Amazing. I always tout mindcrime and it seems like anyone under 40 thinks I'm crazy when I saw it but that is a fantastic album

My first fake id was used trying to get into an Urbana bar when they were on tour for that album.

Couldn't get in then since it was packed. Fortunately it worked for the Morris Day & the Time concert later that year.

I've seen him 3 times. He's a great live show.

I know the album is a lot of covers. But they're good.

Wanted Man is one of my favorite songs.

Now I am envious. Would have loved to see The Time.

Damn. My tastes have changed quite a bit in 10 years. London Calling is the only thing I still listen to.

If I had to call it now, it’s probably Superunknown or Siamese Dream.

A song that got lost in the shuffle is “Drown” off the Singles soundtrack. I’m assuming that they originally planned on including it on Siamese Dream. Now I believe it’s largely forgotten, but probably my favorite track from their 91-93 period. The Melancholy era stuff mostly bores me these days - lots of good songs, but nothing that hits anywhere near as hard as the layered guitars and drum work on the early stuff.

"Birth Ritual" is the Soundgarden version of that song. Probably just missed the cut for Badmotorfinger.
