Case Keenum was pretty awful last night.

Consider the opponent, but yeah he's down there too.

He did well after the injury. Over the offseason it appears that everyone except the Bears staff looked at the Rams tape and they've used that as a blueprint to slow him down. Contain him in the pocket and use zones to confuse him. Nagy appeared to FINALLY scheme to not only beat the zone but to also get him out of the pocket.

Parkins played it on his show. It was from Nagy's press conference today. He talked about (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky being mentally ready for the game in addition to being physically ready. Then he said something along the lines of "I know Chase is mentally ready for our gamepla." It was really odd. Kinda like he prefers Chase.

He does prefer him. I posted this before but I don't think Nagy is a Mitch guy.

Yeah but as we saw against the Raiders, Chase is a back up for a reason.

They could've saved $3m iirc cutting Chase Daniel at the end of the year. I thought it was an easy move, but they didn't even consider it.

I think Nagy sees a bit of himself in Chase Daniel. Journeyman QB who put all the work in and never gave up but still never really got his shot. Part of Nagy has to think he could've been a starting (if not star) QB had he just been given his chance. Its just a function of the way high-achieving people think about themselves. What Nagy I dont think totally realizes (probably does to some extent) is that ability is what held him back, and ability is what holds Chase Daniel back.

The Bears really couldn't find a better option than Daniel? I mean, let's take it a step further...they really couldn't find a better option than Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky? And maybe therein lies Nagy's beef with Mitch. Mitch is a bit of a simpleton who possesses immense god-given ability and for that reason after the Bears finally give up on him some other team will look at his tools and think they can "fix" him. That was never afforded to Nagy and will never be afforded to Daniel.

Yeah, it sounded like he would like to have Mitch's body but Chase's brain.

Absolutely, he should be. There better be competition for Mitch next year. I just have a bad feeling Mariota will be on the roster.

As much as Chase knows the offense he's far more turnover prone than (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. He was a penalty away from 3 interceptions in London and the offense didn't do anything special. Nagy sounded like he prefers Chase. It's probably something that the locker room knows.

Depends on where Pace's head is at. No matter how think your skin is, he got destroyed nationally by the media when he gave up a pick for (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and he has to be thinking that bringing in another QB admits failure and possibly kills his career. If Pace is in fear of his legacy, wouldn't he also be losing leverage in contract extension talks with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky? If I'm (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, I'd demand Goff money given the situation.

Yeah, and Mitch is starting for a reason: Because Chase Daniel is the other option.

Not saying Chase is good or the long term answer but the offense looks less choppy when he's in there.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky will get the rest of this season but if he doesn't get better he wont get the default incumbent status he enjoyed this year.

This isn't a Cutler situation where everyone gets captivated by the natural ability and he never goes away. They definitely wont cut him but they wont make the same accommodations they did before. More than just Chase Daniel will be breathing down his neck.

But like I said Mitch gets the rest of the year to prove his worth.

I agree with this. Pace's contract goes through the 2021 season. He has to have a viable franchise QB in place by the end of the 2020 season for an extension. 3 seasons is and it's not looking good. Pace should be very very nervous. If I'm Nagy, I'm distancing myself from Mitch as much as possible. Perhaps we see a Nagy v. Pace feud.

Yeah this isn't what happened at all.

Nagy was asked about Mitch being able to start, and he tried to hem and haw a little bit saying that they were prepping with both QBs for the time being. "I know Chase is mentally prepared to go," meaning that if Mitch can't or his injury flares up, Chase is ready to play.

You can say a lot of things about Nagy and Lovie, but one thing they have never done is call out a player in front of the press.

He talked about Mitch being mentally prepared for the gameplan. That has nothing to do with his injury.

It kind of is what happened. I listened to the podcast last night. Like Nas said, it was pretty weird and awkward. Parkins and Spiegs noticed it too.

It is ludicrous to think of replacing Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky as if this is as easy as going to a qb store and buy another qb. As for calling the guy a simpleton, that is ridiculous also. Truth is that there is NO PROOF whatsoever that he is somehow a bust. He had a very good season last year as a guy with his experience level as an NFL quarterback.

I think that the people calling (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky a bust are silly and unreasonable. I really do not understand it at all. You are ready to throw a guy out who has won a helluva lot more games than he has lost? You call this guy a simpleton. Come-on. I think that you are a very good poster but on this one, I think that the jury is very much still out on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and people need to think things through rationally and not emotionally.

That is a very good point. There are a lot of guys who become very good coaches who were never very good players due to a lack of physical ability or in some cases size. Daniels may become a good coach someday but he is not a very good quarterback. He is a back-up for a reason. He just doesn't possess the athletic ability to be a good NFL quarterback. Very few teams have anything more than a Chase Daniels type behind their starter.
