You think the Bears are an 8-8 team? I would take that action.

My point is now it's a similar situation as Jamal Adams and the Jets. You have a star defensive end making $25 million a year on what is likely to be a 5-11 team that is going nowhere and you gave up two first rounders to get him. One of those first rounders will likely be close to a top 10 pick this year, significantly decreasing your chances of acquiring a franchise QB. It looks like a bad trade for the Bears today.

The Bears already saw a really good season based on the trade. It could have been better if not for the double doink but in year 1 you easily take what Mack helped turn the team into.

You've been chasing the "Mack trade was actually not good" since the day it was done. Now, it's because (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has regressed like somehow it would be better to have (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky regress and not have Mack because they would be much worse at football and have more draft picks and wouldn't have made the playoffs last year. Mack is in the prime of his career. The Bears can rebuild around him even with giving up two first round picks and a third round pick for a second round pick and Mack. It won't be as easy to get a new quarterback as it would have been.

Honestly, your thoughts are bordering on "The Bears should have tanked" which given your thoughts on the White Sox seems a little bit odd.

I don't know how you got The Bears should have tanked from what I posted. I've never advocated for that. I'm just saying that as of right now it looks like a bad trade to give up so much capital to get a defensive end when you still don't have a quarterback and the team looks like it is going nowhere and the defense has already started declining.

The Mack trade was bad because it is resulting in higher draft picks and a loss of first round picks to draft a quarterback to replace the high draft pick you already have is your basic point. You are saying the Bears shouldn't have done a trade that improved their team by a significant margin because it likely won't result in success in every year of the trade.

You are making a borderline "tank until you find a franchise quarterback" argument here.
Why are you linking (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and Mack? The failure of one doesn't mean the other trade wasn't bad. The Bears already had a good to great season last year because of the Mack trade. This year may be trending down compared to that but it's not like Mack is not going to be great for a while.

So, about that action on the Bears winning more than 5 games this year. Are you turning it down?

Not at all. I'm saying the trade did not significantly improve the team. Last year is looking like a one year wonder type of year, and now you don't have the draft capital or cap room you did without the Mack trade to help improve the team.

For example, I wanted GB to get Mack and was upset they didn't. But because they did not get Mack they got Jaire Alexander, Za'Darius Smith, and Preston Smith. Those three are significantly more valuable than Khalil Mack as a trio. I'm glad I was wrong and that GB didn't trade for him.


I'll take the under on 6.5 wins since 7-9 is their worst case scenario according to you. Let me know the deal.

Huh? Alexander was a 2018 draft pick. Mack was traded AFTER he was drafted. Alexander doesn't matter. Rashan Gary would not have been on the team but he either barely plays or barely does anything when he does play.

Preston Smith makes $6 million this year but yes it does seem that he gave room. However, Rodgers is making significantly more than Mack and yet they found a way to make those signings too. Mack takes up a lot of cap space for his position but it's not like the makes it impossible to have any other player.

Now, if the discussion is Rodgers + Smith + Smith vs. (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky + Mack then Green Bay wins because Rodgers is great and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has regressed but you could take the greatest defensive player in NFL history in his prime and the gap between (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and Rodgers still gives the Packers the advantage.

So that is a no.
