Here's Bill Barnwell's top 10.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/280 ... ivers-no-1

1. Philip Rivers (2004-)
2. Warren Moon (1984-2000)
3. Dan Fouts (1973-87)
4. Tony Romo (2003-16)
5. Jim Hart (1966-84)
6. Jim Everett (1986-97)
7. Jeff Garcia (1999-2009)
8. Jay Cutler (2006-17)
9. Randall Cunningham (1985-2001)
10. Jeff Blake (1992-2005)

Cutler ranked ahead of Randall Cunningham is amusing. I would think Vick should be on the list.

I'd take Rivers. Dan Fouts is 68 years old.

Cunningham should be in top 4. Way underrated here.

Present day Warren Moon might be better than present day Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky.

That's because Rube is an idiot. If anything, Fouts is too high on the list.

1. Rivers*
2. Moon
3. Cunningham
4. Culpepper
5. Fouts
6. Garcia
7. Stafford*
8. Kosar
9. Everett
10. Romo

As I mentioned, there are several passers who only made it to the Super Bowl as backups, including Brunell, Bernie Kosar and Alex Smith. Danny White won a ring while he was Dallas' punter, years before he took over as the starting signal-caller. We could include those quarterbacks, but since they actually suited up for the championship (and several of them won rings), it doesn't seem reasonable to put them in the same grouping as the 10 quarterbacks below.

Ok cool. Guess I forgot he was a backup

This actually illustrates an interesting issue with lists like this. Guys like Brunell and Kosar were at the dead end of their careers and had they been pressed into duty, there is almost no way the teams they were on would have been in a Super Bowl position (to be fair, Kosar was in Dallas...they might have made it with Kosar at QB anyway, considering how loaded that team was), whereas a guy like Alex Smith was an integral part of that 49ers team until he got concussed and replaced. At the time of injury, Alex Smith was the 3rd highest rated QB in the league...that's a something.

Thusly, I still consider guys like Brunell, Kosar, and maybe even Danny White as QB's who never really "made" the SB vs Alex Smith as a guy whose team probably wouldn't have been there without him.

tl;dr: Barnwell is an idiot and my list is better.

I went through a Bengals phase as a kid. One Christmas, I had Blake and Ki-Jana Carter jerseys under the tree. My dad still complains about how hard it was to track down a Jeff Blake jersey  I still have Ki-Jana!

It's a strange list because they included backups. However, wouldn't people like Andy Dalton and Kirk Cousins be on the list over Cutler?

Could be he factored in ages (Cousins-31, Dalton-32), making it more realistic that they still have a chance. Putting Rivers on the list does disrupt the logic however.

Plus Cousins plays for the Vikings. His career is in effect over.
