Not that this is specific to this thread but it is something that gives me pause. I like to watch what I want when I want to. So for one reason or another I have hulu free, prime, roku free and netflix in addition to my Fios lineup.

I am late to the party on Chicago PD and I sort of like it as well as my friend is an extra in it. At any rate trying to start this series from day one and watch straight until now seems an impossibility. I even put a NBC free app on my tv and no go. Seems that you can either get the old stuff and the new but there are holes in seasons. Or you have to pay for old tv shows (not happening).

Just seems like companies (NBC in this story) are screwing with people.

so with comcast they let you do this even if the service address is the same for both names?

call comcast once a year and tell them you want to end service, they'll offer you a discount to stay.

That hasn't worked since 2007ish

Yes!

I'm giving this a shot. when you call to cancel do you have to wait until your service is officially off before you try to activate the new service or can i cancel and immediately call to activate the new service?

I've done it the same day. You will have to turn in your old equipment and they will have to install new equipment if you can't hook it up yourself. That basically means that you can't fall in love with your DVR.

not off to a great start.... signed up online under my name for a new internet plan... log in to my new acccount and everything looks correct.... then when i logged in to my wife's account it says i agreed to a new 1 yr contract today which is not at all true, all i can think is the same address caused issues... will need wife to call later to correct. it is defnitely two separate account numbers.

I haven't done it with just internet. I've always gotten at least cable and internet. You can't use the same number you use for your current account either. Use your number when you sign up for service and your wife's number when she does it.

Do you have an installation date? IF there is an issue a quick call won't hurt. I've never talked to an Xfinity rep that didn't want to sell something or open a new account.

Yep, cable companies are losing millions of subscribers per year so at this point they don't care.

It's still works you just have to cancel and wait 30 days. Then sign up again on a new customer offer.

The problem is the internet part. We can cancel cable, but not the interwebz.

Sling is fine but it doesn’t have NBC Sports Chicago.

I just tried Hulu but cancelled. Their forced commercials are maddening.

They are, we get Hulu free through Sprint and we ended up purchasing the no commercial package for 12 because of how annoying it is to watch. Wife uses it all the time so it's worth it. YouTube is just as bad but I am basically the only one who uses it so it's not worth paying to avoid.

Update. Cancelling wife account and starting new account under my name ended up working perfectly. Used different phone numbers but same address. Once wife account was cancelled and stopped working I just activated my account and it's been working fine for a week. Saving $30+/- a month. Will definitely try again in a year. Thank you nas for the suggestion and guidance!!

It's not really paying more though. BTN was far more valuable than the channels grandma liked.

How do you quantify this?

By the fact that cable companies would rather pay them a higher rate rather than drop them. Cable companies wouldn't choose to lose money so Minnesota can get a new video room.

Do you know what the new deal is for? I see old carriage fee numbers at 0.50$ per month for BTN. And what are the grandma channels? How much do those costs per month. What are the ratings for these channels. You say that the BTN was far more valuable. How so?

None of those things would change the ultimate point that the fees were justified by the loss of subscribers if not carrying Big Ten football in the states there are teams.

What fees? Do you know what the new BTN carriage fees are under the new deal? Are you sure it increased? The Pac 12 Network has had their carriage fees drop 63% since 2012.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/3686089002

Things going pretty good.

I would keep Hulu Plus for $45 per month even though it has some channels I don’t want to support (Big 10 Network, ESPN, etc.) but I am not sure not going to be forced to watch commercials when I have a game on delay. I was watching the Blackhawks last night and I couldn’t even FF through the commercials during intermission. Fuck that. I watched the Caps/Vegas game instead.

Sounds like cord cutting isn't so great.

I watch almost everything on the DVR—especially sports. I’ll typically start watching a Bears game just after halftime and am caught up and live for the end of the game.

In an effort to compete with streaming, Comcast recently added a “smart resume” feature on their recordings, which automatically stops fast forwarding at the end of the commercial break. Awesome feature, which I heard they’ve had for years but didn’t roll out because advertisers protested. But now they’re adding features to retain customers.

As far as pricing goes, I recently save $50 per month by committing for two years. There is a penalty fee if I leave early.

My kid pirates everything. He has a laptop right next to the TV connected with HDMI and a mouse on the couch. There's still hoops he has to jump through but he really can watch any series, any sports, any movie, any pay per view.

Cutting the cord is great. I’ll never go back.

I take that back. If cable went to reasonable prices where I could pick my channels, I would get cable again. The only thing I want a streaming package/cable for is sports. I’ll never go back to a bloated internet/cable bill approaching $200 a month. I have found that it is very easy to go without watching something when there are a dozen other options on Netflix or Prime that will entertain me.

Well you can't watch one of the only things you actually watch TV for.

Not true. I have found a stream to every Hawks game I have wanted to watch. Matter of fact, I have never been unable to find a stream for a game I wanted to watch.

 The true key to cutting cable to save money is to watch streams of it for free. Be thankful for people who keep cable so you can.

Committing a felony is the best cord cutting method out there.

That’s not the key at all. If I can’t watch the Hawks, so be it. I am more of an NHL fan than just a Hawks fan.

Well you don't have to reply. That's better than replying without answering the question.

There will ALWAYS be someone making streams available.

Never thought BRick would be in the pocket of BigCable.

Very sad !
